Tasty, but not quite great
I love La Colombe coffee, every product they release is usually fantastic. I bought this on a trip to Philly a while ago and while it’s really just coffee notes with a hint of sweetness I would say it’s great to try at least once because of its uniqueness. My only real big gripe is I believe there's caffeine in here because a night cap will keep me up all night. I prefer to mix it with hot mulled apple cider for the best winter drink you’ve ever had. And while not well suited for sipping, it’s one of the rums that got me started in sipping and tasting, for that I’m very grateful. In summation – I don’t give it to house guest but I’ve had the same bottle for a year, in context I can finish off a bottle of Zafra in a month.
This is an interesting rum since it's made in a coffee distillery. It's not a sweet coffee flavor, more of a slight undertone coffee with some spice. There's quite a bit of burn so it's not a sipper. I'd mix this with a rum cream.
I saw this rum at the PA liquor store, and thought I'd try it. It is a dark rum, but it's not aged - it is infused with coffee coloring. La Colombe distillery is also a coffee company. Their marketing ploy was to offer a rum for bourbon drinkers. It has the burn like a bourbon. However, the notes are not what you would expect. I taste strong tobacco notes, more so than coffee. It might be coffee flavored, but I could not taste it. Perhaps it might be better in mixed drinks, but as a straight rum, it was not a good choice.
