I remember reading a few reviews from this company and saw this one on the bottom shelf of the liquor store. I understand that great efforts went into making this rum in Colorado, but this is overkill. It is supposedly pure sugar cane artisinal rum infused with natural vanilla, fruits, spices, and herbs. Supposedly, it was inspired by an old Creole family recipe, which I seriously doubt. I was raised in Creole Louisiana and this rum tastes nothing at all like the flavors that I grew up liking. The results taste like no other rum that I have tried nor do I ever want to try again, but it is just way too sweet for me. It won't go to waste, but I also won't buy it again. I almost dropped my rating to a 4 until I saw how awful those rums were in my rankings.
Update Jan 29, 2019: This rum now ranks in the lower 28% of all rums that I have rated here. It is presently the worst one that I now have. However, it is not quite bad enough to pour down the toilet, but I do wish to get it out of my sight. So I tapped into my own creative abilities for mixing flavors. It goes fairly well with pineapple juice and dashes of lime juice, lemon juice, and Angostura Bitters. You get the picture! Find ways to kill all of the vanilla extract flavors on this one. As for using this instead of sugar added to coffee, all this rum does is to ruin an otherwise good coffee.
While the label says it's a gold rum, this is really a flavored rum, but a good flavored rum. It's a vanilla infusion that makes it good for mixed cocktails like a Chocolate Rumtini or a Caribbean Coffee where you want rum flavor, but not to much kick or burn.
