Again...very nice in a mix. I do not drink rum pure much so I'll admit to be something of a rum barbarian but this one is very nice!
Candied fruit and distinct pineapple (natural!). Oak? Maybe. Regardless It’s quite "round". It’s sweet.
Although the sweetness is expected and welcomed on my part in the case of a infused rum, it seems that the same aberrant syrupiness found in most Plantation rums really dominates here in the same way it does in the Original Dark and the XO 20th. As much as I want to endorse the product for the effort, I detest that sickly syrup taste. I believe most people describe it as coconut.
Quite sweet but pleasant as well. (matches Plantation overall tasting profile)
Mostly used in Cocktails and takes them to a whole new level , but can also be used as a sipper from time to time due to its unique flavor in my opinion!!
Profile: Tropical Pineapple , smoky banana , citrus peel
I'm always wary of flavoured rums. A friend took a chance on this though, and man was I happy about it. Immediately on opening the bottle, you could smell the pineapple. In a good way. We poured a glass, and took a quick sniff - where did the pineapple go? All we could smell was the rum, and it smelled delicious. But, after a few moments, the pineapple was back. Subtle, but enticing. We each took a taste, and lit up. Delicious. Light brown sugar, maybe toffee, oak, spices... and the pineapple. Casually there. Not in your face, but waving 'Hi!' on every delicious sip. The soft, delicious (sweet) of the pineapple, but none of the acidity. So good. I bet it would be even better in a mixed drink (rum punch?), but I think it's too good to use for that!
This wasn't some cheap party booze. The pineapple was there, but it was still a solid rum. Highly recommended.
This rum was my first introduction to Plantation rums. I had read a lot about them, and was very excited to taste this rum. Maybe I was setting the bar too high, but I was disappointed. It was obvious that the rum was high quality with a slight pineapple flavor. The rum was thick, low burn, complex, but I just couldn't find a way to enjoy drinking this. I tried it neat, with water, on the rocks, in a coke, even mixed in with POG juice. Every time the rum dominated the drink and was just not enjoyable. I wanted a lighter rum that would compliment a mixed drink, but this overpowered every drink. I waited a month until I finished the bottle, but I never really connected with this rum. High quality for sure, but I never found a way to enjoy it.
Very subtle pjnapple taste to this rum. The aroma is comming through nicely and is definitely on the background. Not too much complexity but there is some and you do taste (a bit) of the classic plantation taste. Nice to try this but I got this for 40 euros (you can get it for 30 on some websites) which is kinda expensive. Pay a bit more and you can enjoy the XO. It's a nice rum on the rocks and great in a cocktail. Sipping straight is fine also but it does have a harsh burn. But ok, you are a rum lover which means you are a pirate by heart so if you can't handle that start drinking Bacardi breezers. Try this you won't be disappointed. It's just fun to try and it's a plantation so you can't really go wrong there.
Loved the smell but the taste was of sharp alcolhol, and not the sweet taste the smell had me hoping for
Apparently, rum and pineapple go very well together. The pineapple appears throughout in both the bouquet, palette and finish. It brings just the right amount of freshness and sweetness without overpowering the rum in any way. It's such a nice and easy sipper. Enjoy it straight up from the bottle. Definitely a re-buy!
Flavour- pineapple fruitiness
Uses- neat mixer
Its ok but not great straight it is however a very nice mixer makes a great pina colada or hurricane rum punch easy to find in M&S
Roasted pineapple aroma melds with the toffee and vanilla. Not over powering because it isn't flavored more like infused.
Special with that pineapple smell and taste.
Got it for 30$, very good :-)
I found the pineapple to be very up front and the rum a backdrop on which the pineapple sits. An interesting taste venture that's nice for some variety but not one I would regularly drink. Its sweet but not too sweet and its a very fresh true pineapple taste not a synthetic or false one.
Quite refreshing and one that would work very well in cocktails
Do not miss this one.. even if you dont like a bit sweeter rums... this really works. The taste of pineaple is realy there! It fits just right! Highly recomended!
Lovely stuff full of flavour but not too overboard with the pineapple.
I finally got my hands on this $30 flavored rum. Don't even think of trying this one neat, since it is rather disgusting. Adding ice does little to improve it. However, it just begs to reinvent the Pina Colada. My first try at this was equal parts Plantation Pineapple, Plantation 3-star (blanco), and Coco Lopez. This made a good Pina Colada over ice, but I went one step further. Try mixing equal parts Plantation Pineapple with chilled Coco Lopez with no ice at all for a 20% ABV Pina Colada. This last combo worked best for me, but I won't be buying this one again.
There are several articles on the back that can be read with a magnifying glass. I really appreciate the research into bringing this very unique rum back for us to try, but I can also see why it fell out of fashion. One of the articles also shows how the Reverend Stiggins who favored this rum was not a really nice guy.
The flavor is what I expected. The pinnaple is there but light. Its not overloaded like some spiced rums. The problem with this rum is that the base spirit taste young and sharp. The concept for this rum is good, I just wish it was aged longer. You can do better for the money.
Came across this Rum while in Seattle @ Bario restaurant.
Beautiful dark color and one of my favorites from the plantation line. Fruity smooth taste, u can really smell the pineapple essential oil. I think its also very good in cocktails, but i’m more of a sipping person.
This rum has interesting history, i recommend to read about it, cocktail historian David Wondrich was involved in developing and recovering this lost recipe from two hundred years ago so what could go wrong?
The rum is made by infusing Queen victoria pineapples in plantation original dark rum for 3 months and also macerating pineapple rind in rum to extract essential oils from the pineapple. Then the macerated mixture is distilled and then blended with the pineapple infused original dark.
The pineapple taste is natural and fresh and sweet and its in good balance to the rum, not too overpowering as in many other flavoured rums.
You can still taste the profile of the
dark rum. But i have to say the rum base, which is very standard trini mixing rum is nothing special or interesting on the flavour department, but it's all about prefererence because the rum is very inoffensive flavor wise, it lifts up the pineapple even more.
Is bit sweet, probably sugared but it actually compliments the flavor profile of this rum.
Great mixer, is bit lost in heavily flavoured drinks tho.
Imo makes the best cuba libre i have ever tasted.
Dark 'n Stormy so zázvorovým Ale. Môžem len odporučiť.
