Recommendable to most
This is a blend of 5 year old rums and a good and affordable place to start exploring the rums of Compagnie des Indes. It has a well balanced body and a nice smell. The light color indicates no or very little coloring. Although only aged for 5 years it is absolutely drinkable straight up, but dont expect a rich and powerfull or very sweet rum. A decent and honest young rum as it only contains 15 grams of added sugar per liter. Recommendable
Love the natural color and absence of added sugar which allows some really good falvors to break through. Not the best in the C des I catalog but a good and lovely everyday sipping rum.
There is reason in being critical towards the dogma that "older is better". "Ooh, I have this 18 year old rum, it surely must be better than this 12 year old rum." Wrong. Aging does things - often good things - but it doesn't neccesarily make a better rum. I was pleasantly suprised by the line up of 5 year old rums by CDI. The 'Latino' is light and bright. It has some character but certainly isn't 'heavy'. It's not overly sweet, with a nice dry finish. And because it hasn't spend a quarter of a century in a barrel, it's lively: you can have another one and another and another without getting saturated with oak. Try doing that with old rum. This is a sophisticated party drink or an unfuzzy summer evening sipper, it might become a permanent addition to my cabinet.
Good and sweet. Not outstanding for its price. Best drank around a campfire by the icefields parkway within a stones-throw of a herd of elk.
Great rum and bang for your buck. Nicely layered with tones from the bourbon casks and sweet esters. The 40% is not even annoying. Good stuff.
I think this one is a little bit too young and too simple.
Yes it's a natural rum, but still sweet.
I would start from the CDI West Indies 8 years.
Smell: Vanilla, alcohol, oak, citrus fruits
Taste: Sweetness, vanilla, wood, paper, spices
Blend: Guatemala (60%), Trinidad, Barbados, Guyana
Casks: 5 Years in ex Bourbon casks
Rum tasting in Tirana Albania continued with Compagnie des Indes Latino Vosne Romanee. Nice and unique bottle and label design. Bright golden color. Sweet oaky flavors mixed with mild caramel and vanilla to your nose and palate when neat sipped. Sweet and short burn at the end.
