Bacardi Carta Negra

There is nothing wrong with it, it's just there are so many better rums out there. It is relatively cheap and you can buy it almost anywhere. It doesn't have any direction of taste I would enjoy, but also there is nothing that I don't like. It fits well in its price range. I recommend it as first step into rum tasting.

In my opinion it is good choice for it's price, nothing special but i prefer it in comparison with the other cheaper bacardi rums

For this price it's pretty ok. For parties it's ok, but definitely not for holding in cabinet

If you never tasted a rum before, Bacardi Carta Negra is good choice for the first time. If you never tasted a rum before, just enjoy this one for the first and for the last time. On future there is no need in buying this product again.

Also it can be good choice for drinking in cocktails.

I don't believe i am able to add any new vision on Bacardi Carta Negra, however, contrary to them large amount of hateful reviews. which are repeatedly posted on the Bacardi range i must say, it's simply not true. Carta Negra is quality distilled Run and alcohol. it won't cause you head aches and vicious hangovers. this is a virtue that many products in this price range sadly don't posses. as it was designed and blended to suit both a budget and a specific profile of drinkers or cocktails and mostly the common Rum and Coke variations, there is not too much to expect here. in the realm of the thicker and heavier, syrupy rums in which it is supposed to stand (out?) as a superior Black Rum. it is a bit of an overstatement.
Tasting notes:
Nose: Alcoholic, Young, slightly pharmaceutical but in the sense of sanitation and not a coughing syrup at any point, gentle hints of wood, probably oak. gentle molasses aroma but overall quite thin on the nose.
Palate: Very balanced sweetness with an overwhelming first impression of deep young alcohol with a long echo, almost a finish note before the first flavors can be identified. after the initial shock, gentle sweetness of molasses with peppery pinching notes, it's the youth of the spirit talking, the oak barrel aging is loudly pointing on itself. it is quite dry on my tongue and reminds the Jamaican Appleton Estate 8 Y/O. which is quite interesting for the price point. however the Carta Negra lacks the body of thicker aged black and dark rums have.
it is not complex and not developing anywhere. very linear experience of dry mild sweetness, not bad at all.
Finish: Deep alcoholic burn, sweet flame on the back of the tongue. once it passes the dry sweetness is all that remains. if you could filter the cola of the rum, this is exactly the aftertaste would remain.
Conclusion: i am not judging it by the darkness and color, it's unfair, since it can be caramelized. it is clearly less filtered than the Carta Blanca (which now i appreciate even more) as if the filtration of the white run is complained as removing aromas and tastes i found the White rum version deeper and more complex on the palate than the flatness of the sweeter dark "Superior Black Rum" the rather thin body of the Rum itself places it in the niche of competing Cuban rums although it's a very different product compared to Havana Club. i enjoyed the latter Anejo version much more. straight. to sum up it is a decent mass produced Rum enjoyed by tens of millions, you can't argue with success, it is probably the taste profile which wins with the masses, we as reviewers should not forget that, even if we may have more educated sense of taste buds, we still have to judge the Rum for what it is.
after drinking a quarter of a Liter alone, straight, i would say, it is a Rum if for aggressive pricing will be found on my supermarket shelf i would probably buy over the closest mass produced competition (Captain Morgan Dark) however the latter is a blend and is constantly changing through the years while Bacardi Superior and Carta Negra mostly change the label designs.
Carta Negra gets a 7/10 which stands for a 67/100 at my Rum scale. it lacks the creamy notes of it's White younger and more filtered brother which scored 7/10

Nice surprise. Deep, dark color. Intense flavor, slightly sweet. Good rum to sipping and mixing.

To jest tani rum do drinków, idealny do coli. Podrzucam ocenę o 1, bo to jeden z moich ulubionych rumów do Cuba Libre, które na jego bazie fajnie smakuje. Jest najbardziej wyrazisty i przyprawiony z podstawowych rumów Bacardi. Raczej nie do picia solo.
