this is nice. it's got a hint of something on the noise i cant quite place. reminiscent of maybe local tequilas or pulqe or something in mexico? im not sure. if i sort it out, i'll edit my review. anyway i like this well enough but im just not a fan of the style. interestingly day 2 (i didnt finish a wisp) it liked it a lot more. wonder if decanting or maybe home barreling might improve it for me? i might try this again just to learn more about it and my palette.
Pas un rhum de dégustation. Nez intéressant, il est bon en ti-punch.
Blanc agricole, bottled at 42% this rhum uses sugar cane that has been growed partly in sea water, hence the name.
It should have an oceanic aromas. Lets find out.
Nose: quite mild on the nose, traditional agricole aromas, grass, citrus and fruit but also some brine and corn, hint of olives.
Taste: very mild on the palate, brine, light smokiness, minerals, corn, lemon, olives
Finish: short and smooth.
Overall: Slight disappointment, i was expecting a nice dose of briny and fruity flavours, yes it does have just enough brininess for me but the other flavors feel muted, the flavors are nice and interesting but they dont really pop at you at all.
The result is something that comes of as a mix between standard molasses based white rum and blanc agricole. Higher proof could make this rum more interesting.
Doux et long en bouche, aromes fruités zt notes de vanille
This is part of a 24 Rum Advent Calendar given to me. I've never had a white Agrigole before and found it surprisingly tasty. Nice balance of sweetness and alcohol. Odd to not have the nuiances given by Molasses.
Like it a good bit.
For producing this “Ocean” rum a different technique is applied as for the Trois Rivières “de l’Ocean”. While for the first the cane gets in touch with the ocean while growing, the latter is diluted with ocean water. As a result, the Cuvée de l’Ocean has less pronounced “ocean”. It is much closer to the ordinary Trois Rivières which is much cheaper. Still a good agricole but less special. I’d prefer either the ordinary one or the “real” ocean.
Decent but I appreciated it less than the original White trois rivières rhum. Drinking it in ti punch
I saw this strange looking bottle near the bottom shelf of a favorite gourmet store. At first, I thought that it was misplaced. Then I read the label with the name being quite familiar from these Discussions. For only $35 US, I took it home along with my other great repeat purchases.
Before I opened it, I looked at the reviews for it on this site. At high tide, the salty sea enters the cane fields, which gives their cane it's unique flavor. It is located near the town of Saint Luce on the central part of the southern coast of Martinique. I even used Google Maps to get a closer look at such an odd location to grow sugar cane. Somehow, the salt does not kill this special breed of cane.
Now understanding more about the meaning of the name on the bottle, it was time to open it up. What would I compare it to? A Brazilian cachaca? A Haitian clairin? A Oaxacan mezcal? None of these? All of these? It is certainly an oddball. But did I like it? Not really. Is it repulsive? Not really. Does it go well with seafood as suggested in other reviews? Yes! Instead of having my usual beer with some boiled crawfish, I poured some of this on the rocks. Surprisingly, it worked quite well.
Even if I find another bottle, I will not buy it again, but was glad to have had this chance.
Odeur très particulière une chance que ça goûte pas la même chose. Au nez, salé vinaigré. C'est pas un rhum que j'aime. Il est fait pour être mélangé.
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Rhum blanc agricole de Martinique. Cannes venant de l'extrême sud de l'île. Titre 43°.
