For producing this “Ocean” rum a different technique is applied as for the Trois Rivières “de l’Ocean”. While for the first the cane gets in touch with the ocean while growing, the latter is diluted with ocean water. As a result, the Cuvée de l’Ocean has less pronounced “ocean”. It is much closer to the ordinary Trois Rivières which is much cheaper. Still a good agricole but less special. I’d prefer either the ordinary one or the “real” ocean.

Slight heat but not terrible. I get some sweetness and maybe butterscotch or bananas but I’m not the expert right

Packaging, aroma, taste correspond to the marine concept. Despite the lightness in the stomach, it's heavy for the head. It's interesting to drink 1-2 times.

Pas un rhum de dégustation. Nez intéressant, il est bon en ti-punch.

Nice and clean, with crisp dry flavours. Exactly what you want from a simple, affordable agricole.

My first taste of rhum agricole. It's got a strange funk to it, but it goes down great in a cocktail.

Given the name and visual presentation, I went into this expecting a maritime experience similar to certain whiskies from up North only to be proven completely wrong.

Nose: Tomato juice, vegetal, parmesan, savory notes that are strongly reminiscent of lobster bisque or bouillabaisse, hints of parsley or dried celery. Very unique.

Taste: Not as intense but pretty consistent with what you get on the nose with the addition of a light floral sweetness and some sugar cane. Kinda incohesive as a whole, disharmonic collage of flavors with no typical "funk“ to make up for it.

Finish: Not very long, briney and herbal.

Let me tell you I’m not a huge fan of this so I’ll just keep it around as a sipper for when I’m in a funny mood until the bottle goes empty. I certainly will not be getting another, though.

Due to its tomato notes, I imagine this could make for an interesting Bloody Mary or as an addition to seafood dishes.
