I actually like this rum. I know it isn't what you expect if you think it will be like kraken. I enjoy the slight vanilla taste. I usually drink it straight with some ice.
I tend to take it easy on Admiral Nelsons brand of rums. For the price you get what you ask for. It's a cheaper brand of rum yet it tends to be flavorful enough to stand with Capt. Morgan's rums. The black patch though is simply a mixer. Goes great with diet coke and other drinks. If anything experiment. I have found to enjoy it by just mixing it with different things and have found friends who enjoy it as well. Let's face it though. If you have $13-$16 you can not do better than this. Go with that mindset and you'll be alright with the admiral.
Bolder flavor, higher proof, and still cheaper than capt. no brainer for me..
At first this bottle looked great to try, I was impressed with the packaging. My first thought was should be similar to tattoo or kraken judging by the rich dark color...boy was I wrong. I cracked this bottle open and the overwhelming smell of nail polish remover attacked my nostrils. I would never dream of drinking this straight or on the rocks, it's bearable with coke but the nail polish aftertaste stays with you. I did not try mixing with other products but with my overall disappointment I doubt it would be any better. My rating for this product is just nasty. never again will this beverage offend my tastebuds.
I got this thinking it would be a good Kraken substitute, but it turns out this is much different. It's got way more "red fruit" flavor and tastes better with a cherry garnish rather than a lime. Has a bit of an alcohol bite, but way more smooth than I was expecting. Not as deep and full as other dark rums, more of a mid-range sort of thing. I liked it with Diet Coke, but I'm intrigued at the idea of trying it in mixed drinks.
Surprised after 1st tasting because of all of the bad reviews. Slightly strong burn in mouth and throat with warm finish. On the front is a lot of fake vanilla, but nice molasses flavor on the back end. Also, not as sweet as I was expecting (which is great!). Surprisingly drinkable rum for $11.
Tasted 12/20/21 at Laka Lono.
After a tiny sip, moved to drinking this in a coke, "thank the lord," as my notes say.
This is a "kinda hot" rum, with lots of vanilla flavor and aroma.
I've got a smiley face with a note saying good with Coke!
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label
