Bought this rum because the bottle looked amazing. Easy going down
Note i really dislike rum from DR but this is probably the best one (exception are Opthimus but these are blends so not apples to apples ). Has a nice toffee nose, velvety consistency with long caramel finish, not overly sweet would rate higher but has a bitter undertone
Not quite worthy of a straight up “sipper” but quite wonderful ove a big old ice cube!
As a huge fanatic of maritime history and legends I was immediately drawn to the KS badge. However having tried both the 12 and 18 year, this being the 18 year, they both leave a bit to be desired from a character standpoint.
The 18 year is honestly a respectable rum with a very smooth body and attractive presentation with the promise of quality. However the flavors seem too dull vs the essence of the ethanol in the bottle. It doesn’t in my opinion deliver what it should at $50 a bottle vs Pilar, Zacapa, or Diplomatico. In the end I do enjoy it…but not enough to buy it again.
I have never come across this brand. It was a gift and I must say pleasant one. Smooth but not too sweet, good sipper.
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

The upfront aroma is lightly sweet, hints of molasses and vanilla. Fruity aromas as well. The flavor is smooth at first with a light sweetness up front. Hints of oak and vanilla with lightly spicy hints of cinnamon and dark fruit. A smooth rum that dries out just past the middle and finishes dry and lightly bitter. Smooth finish. Very nice sipping rum. A bit lighter in body than expected. Some comments about it being hot but I don't get that at all. I find it warming but not at all hot. If it had a little more body and just a bit bolder flavor I'd go 8 but it's a fine rum as it is. $42 in Ohio.
Edit 9/25/19 - On revisiting this rum I find that it's still solid. Hydrometer test shows little or no sugar added. Smooth as silk, lightly sweet and a perfect medium body that can be sipped all day. Light sweetness up front and drying in the finish. I this a very easy sipping rum. A solid 7 or 7.5. (Batch 4, bottle 218,856)
