Bought this rum because the bottle looked amazing. Easy going down
Note i really dislike rum from DR but this is probably the best one (exception are Opthimus but these are blends so not apples to apples ). Has a nice toffee nose, velvety consistency with long caramel finish, not overly sweet would rate higher but has a bitter undertone
Not quite worthy of a straight up “sipper” but quite wonderful ove a big old ice cube!
As a huge fanatic of maritime history and legends I was immediately drawn to the KS badge. However having tried both the 12 and 18 year, this being the 18 year, they both leave a bit to be desired from a character standpoint.
The 18 year is honestly a respectable rum with a very smooth body and attractive presentation with the promise of quality. However the flavors seem too dull vs the essence of the ethanol in the bottle. It doesn’t in my opinion deliver what it should at $50 a bottle vs Pilar, Zacapa, or Diplomatico. In the end I do enjoy it…but not enough to buy it again.
I have never come across this brand. It was a gift and I must say pleasant one. Smooth but not too sweet, good sipper.
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

I first experienced the 12-year-old, which is a delightful rum, not too sweet, not too dry, vanilla overtones, delicious straight up or mixed. The 18 is just a lovely step up from the 12. The 18 is smoother and more refined, definitely a top five sipper in my book. I know everyone's palate is different, some like sweeter rums, some dryer but this one is definitely in my zone.
I am a fan. I have had the 23 and in my opinion, it is so close to the 18, that I have a hard time justifying the added expense.
I also note that this is not a Solera rum, so I assume that the aging is not fudged.
BANG ON Kirk and Sweeney, may our love affair continue.
