Not strong, smooth and a taste of chocolat. I like it. Very good Rum. Price and Quality is excellent.
Excellent sipping rum. Easy on the palate, and super smooth. Can't wait to add this to my bar.
Love to get this at one of my local cigar bars. Pairs well with a variety of cigars! Beautiful color with lovely finish!
I first experienced the 12-year-old, which is a delightful rum, not too sweet, not too dry, vanilla overtones, delicious straight up or mixed. The 18 is just a lovely step up from the 12. The 18 is smoother and more refined, definitely a top five sipper in my book. I know everyone's palate is different, some like sweeter rums, some dryer but this one is definitely in my zone.
I am a fan. I have had the 23 and in my opinion, it is so close to the 18, that I have a hard time justifying the added expense.
I also note that this is not a Solera rum, so I assume that the aging is not fudged.
BANG ON Kirk and Sweeney, may our love affair continue.
I found this rum by accident. I was in Texas looking for some rum we can't get in Alberta. The store manager at Spec's is a fellow rum guy and has a bunch of high end runs stashed away in the back. He had the Hamilton rims I was looking for and when I asked him for another cool rum, he introduced me to this. Almost as good as my most favorite rum, also from the DR, Brugal Legends!
Great flavor with notes of vanilla mild spice warm and lingering
Ideal sipping rum. Neat or with a couple rox. Aroma of oak and vanilla.
This is a great sipping rum.. neat or with rocks.. either way cant go wrong with this one
Love all K&S rums, this is a little more smooth than the 12 YO and the vanilla and thats pretty good for Agricole rhum!!
This K&S great and the smell is absolutely amazing. Gotta find the K&S 23
A great tasting drink, maybe a little over priced but great smell, nice bottle and amazing smooth taste just by its self.
The only thing better is the 23 year. For those who like a smooth rum that isn’t too sweet. This rum comes highly recommended. Reasonably priced @ $38USD.
A nice smell of vanilla and roasted almonds. And while it tastes like that as well, it has some oak to balance out the sweetness. And it has a long, nice burn to the finish.
I love this rum , it is sweet it has a vanilla caramel flavour and boy howdy it’s good
To expensive here in Canada but south of the border this price is very reasonable I’d pick up a case if I could bring it back and not get dinged , yep yep pick up a bottle and enjoy 😉👍👍
What an inviting aroma!
As always, I'm drinking my rum neat and this is another one that gently caresses your tongue.
It does feel like it's missing something in the finish to fully embrace me, but this is great quality rum.
A mid priced rum that hold it’s value. The nose is somewhat buttery with notes of cream brulee, vanilla seeds, caramel and perhaps a hint of cherry sauce and oak. Real nice.
The taste is medium bodied and semi dry with butterscotch and vanilla, finishing on well integrated and balanced tobacco leaves and oak that stays pleasently in the mouth for a while.
It’s very nice but not very adventurous.
Fantastic on the nose, with the vanilla scent coming through. Front end heat gives way to a very smooth sipper. I recommend letting your bottle air out a bit after the first decorking. I left the cork off for about a half hour and then poured and enjoyed with a single ice cube which really allowed for the deeper flavors to come out. Really a quality rum. I personally like the 23 year old better because the flavors are more even and the slight taste of oak is slightly more pronounced, but I think it’s a matter of preference. I DID throw back half a bottle while at a recent gathering friends, so I guess that says something. Buy with confidence.
This is truly a great rum i would recommend to any rum enthusiast. Just know this rum is on the sweeter side and the long aging has brought complexity to the finish. To me, this rum doesn’t have much of an oak note from aging. Enjoy.
Solid, typically Dominican rum. Good value at £40 a bottle. Better than the 12, not quite as good as the 23. Get a bottle.
This 18 is delicious with a great aroma. It's a bit sweeter than I normally like. I will enjoy buying this again and will try the 23 year as well.. the 12 year was good too.
Same bad bottle for a cabinet, but even more delicious inside.
I have been a K&S Fan since first buying a bottle. This 18 did not fail to step up. Very well balanced and a true pleasure to partake in. Good price point at around $45. Great bang for your buck.
The younger brother to this rum is K&S 12 Year and was one of the very first rums that I reviewed on this site. I was very impressed at first, especially for it being so cheap. Then after three weeks, flavors of leather dominated. At that point, I bid farewell to K&S. I also figured that most of the cost goes into the fancy bottles, so that had me wondering just how cheap was the rum inside.
I have decided to give them a second chance with this 18 year old dry rum. The aroma is caramel with a faint hint of leather. On the tongue, it is peppery and thin because of only 4 gpl of added sugar. The after taste is caramel with a faint hint of leather and some complex Caribbean spices. There is no after burn. So far so good. I will check it again in about 3 weeks to see if the same thing happens to this one as what happened to my long gone 12 year old.
Update October 15, 2018: This is a good day for rum tastings since it is pouring down rain outside. It is now one day shy of the three week window that I had originally promised to allow. Guess what? This bottle has not turned into a leather bomb like the K&S 12 did. It is still very enjoyable and worthy of it's 8 rating that I originally gave it.
Update April 22, 2019: For fans of this K&S 18, the aroma and taste is very similar to South Bay Batch 18, also from the Dominican Republic. However, the after taste of the South Bay blows the woody after taste of this one out of the water. Give that one a try if you like this one. I have to special order my supply of South Bay rums to be picked up locally, but they are worth the trouble.
Update May 7, 2019: For those of you who still have the old bottles of K&S with them being widest at the top, KEEP THEM as they will soon become collector's items!!! The new bottles are totally round and look like rum versions of Chambord Liqueur. I kid you not! I at first criticized my bottle of K&S 12 as being hard to pour and needing two hands. At least the cork fits tight and the bottle is unlikely to spill on a rocking boat out to sea! After having a lot a very bad rum bottle designs, those original K&S bottles are for keeps! Hang on to them.
Smooth and good balance, not too heavy. It is good caramel, vanilla, buttercake with clove flavor.
There is only one problem. Cap is hard to open and close with only cork. This is not wine....
