This is truly a great rum i would recommend to any rum enthusiast. Just know this rum is on the sweeter side and the long aging has brought complexity to the finish. To me, this rum doesn’t have much of an oak note from aging. Enjoy.

This was a birthday present from a friend, and I am saving the last drams until he comes over so he can enjoy it too... It's got just the right amount of sugar and vanilla, not overpowering and not muted. Definitely will want to enjoy this again!

I had not heard of this brand, bought it on a whim. Glad I did, oh so glad I did.

It has a rich aroma that hits you with sugar and tobacco, but the flavor is completely different than what the nose makes you think. Cocoa explosion in the mouth with a subtle finish that starts with nutmeg and spice and tails off on molasses notes. Just a smidge on the dry side on the finish, which is why I give it an 8 instead of a 9 personally.

Overall a great, great rum that is a definite drinker.

"Kirk and Sweeney" byl název dřevěného škuneru, který byl vyhlášený v pašování rumu z karibské oblasti do Spojených států během prvních let Velké Prohibice v USA. Obvykle těsně předtím, než vplul do vod Spojených států, škuner Kirk and Sweeney zakotvil na tzv. „Rum Line“ (okraji vod spadajících do jurisdikce USA) a prodával rum menším lodím, které zastavily po jeho boku Menší lodě byly rychlejší a ovladatelnější než flotila pobřežní stráže a pašovaly pak rum na břeh. Legendárnímu škuneru se stal osudný rok 1924, kdy byl pobřežní stráží zajat s velkou nakládkou skvělého karibského rumu, poté přejmenován na „Chase“ a až do pozdních 40.let sloužil potřebám US Coast Guard.
Rum je vyráběný z té nejlepší, ručně sklízené čerstvé cukrové třtiny v malých šaržích a zraje v amerických dubových sudech minimálně po dobu vyznačenou na láhvi, tedy celých 18 let (nejedná se tedy o typičtější metodu Solera).

Původ: Dominikánská republika
Aroma: Kůže, nasládlé koření, kapky proti kašli, skořice, hřebíček, lékořice, včelí plástve. Aroma není zrovna mohutné, vůně mi přijde trochu uzavřená. (85 b)
Chuť: Vcelku suchý, hodně vystupuje broušená kůže, trocha koření, hřebíček, včelí plástve. V dochuti větrovost, dřevo a tmavá čokoláda. (87 b)
Body: 86/100
Shrnutí: Ochutnán vzorek koupený v českolipském baru Egypt. Příjemný rum, pohodový, relaxační. Doma mám lahev jeho dvanáctiletého stájového kolegy.

Mild, Smooth, almost to smooth compared to the 12 and 23. We finally tasted the 12/18/23 in the same night.

The 12 mixes great, the 18 works well either way, the 23 would be my selection if I wanted to enjoy a cigar. All three are very good, all three are just a little different from one another, and they are affordable with only a few bucks difference between each bottle. Will always have at least one of these in my rum cabinet. If the bottle means anything to you - nice bottle to pull out of the cabinet and leave out on the bar for the evening, makes for a contrasting line up with other selections being offered.

The nose starts of with a rich butterscotch aroma. Followed with a buttery and floral smell. First sip has a touch of heat but that mellows quickly. The mouth feel is velvety and rich. Sampling between the 12, 18 and 23 year rums..the 18 is the sweet spot. I highly recommend.

They state this one is an agricole from Dominican Republic. Well, it sure got some of that in it. Taste and nosewise it's the imagination takes me to a mix of agricole and molasses rum. Well thats just my imagination.
Nevertheless, this is a very special rum. Lot's of vanilla and oak with some dry tones. Very interesting. Im intrigued to buy the 23 yo.
