A very interesting finish for a caroni. The last 2 years of maturation, took place in port pipes, thus fusing the heavy caroni style with sweet port notes, and it works ok. The nose is subtle on the classic smokey, tarlike caroni notes, and you can easily sense an underlying character of sweet oak and dark fruits. The palate feels balanced with rounded oak, tar, ripe dark berries and a touch of sweetness on the dry finish. It's nice but also gives the feel of a slightly ligther body than usually found in caroni's, which is both good and bad depending on the mood.
I am a huge sucker for Caroni, so I had to try this from Bristol. It has some of the classic Caroni-traits, but in a way watered down manner.
Nose: Rubber, acetone and a hint of caramel and vanilla
Taste: Starts with the classic Caroni-tastes of tar and rubber, but it soon dwindles down to a thin and sweet aftertaste
Overall: This is maybe a good gateway into Caroni for beginners, but it is to watered down to do the Caroni-name justice
En rigtig Caroni rom med dejlig eftersmag af røg og citrus, en stor skandale at det rigtige Caroni ikke findes mere, jeg savner deres dejlige rommer.
Næse: Sød men lidt sprittet!
Smag: Olieret, kompleks, sprittet og smag af egefad!
Eftersmag: Semi lang, start sprittet, kompleks og til sidst egefad!
This rum is very much like Bourbon whiskey (stored on bourbon barrels). Golden in colour with fruit and sweet oakon the nose the palate is mid -weight with touches of tar and a DRY finish.
