Totally drinkable and enjoyable but nothing special.
A stronger version of the famous Philippine rum bottled at 43% ABV. The rum has been aged for 10 years in fired barrels where American whiskey was previously aged.
Bottle: Classic Don Papa with cork cap supplied in a tube.
Colour: Dark brown
Nose: Sweet, fruity and quite pleasant. It is very similar to the classic 7 year old version. It smells of vanilla, flowers, cocoa, tutti frutti candy, liquorice, caramel and cinnamon.
Mouth: Sweet, but less sweet than the 7YO version. There is also more alcohol strength. On the palate, I could detect chocolate, vanilla, mango, ripe apricots and cherries and, compared to the 7 YO, more wood.
Aftertaste. Short to medium.
Summary: Compared to the 7YO version, it's a more mature rum, but it's still kind of over-scented. The aroma and taste are better, but the big price difference between these two rums is not justified in my opinion. It is just good marketing.
Rating: 7/10
I don't mind this rum at all. A little more sweet than I would normally like but is balanced by the other flavours on offer. My wife thinks it just tastes like rum and coke but she likes Aldi's Seadog....enough said.
Sweet rum with sense of candles and slightly vanilla. You can find spices there
The nose is very familiar – huge wafts of raspberry flavoured bubblegum.
"It tastes like a reduced sugar Marmalade. Full of that slightly bitter artificial sweetener like taste."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

I tested original Don Papa like a year ago. I dont remember the taste of it but I remember it wasnt anything special. Ten years old version is far better but still has a lot space to grow in quality. In Czech Republic you can get a bottle of 10yo for over 150USD and I dont really think this rum is worth of that money.
Bottle: Original Don Papa had a nice bottle and 10yo is almost the same, just in different colors. Its kinda pretty, but no original idea here.
Color: semi-dark with notes of melted gold.
Smell: I can smell some spice from Don Papa yet I am not sure about which it is. I smell some raisins and vanilla. There is almost no trace of alcohol smell at all, because its killed with sweetness. You can smell caramel as well
Taste: When you put Don Papa into a glass you can see its very sweet from how the liquid moves in the glass. And yes, it is very sweet. And also very smooth. It has very light traces of alcohol, but what you can taste most is caramel, raisins and sweetness in general. Some kind of dried fruit and thats all.
Don Papa 10yo is not bad. I wouldnt refuse it if it was offered to my to drink, but definitelly not buying a bottle of my own.
