Thanks so much for submitting a report. It has been emailed to the Rum Captain and will be actioned shortly.
Nice and warm. Dark chocolate, liquorice, vanilla. A little bit too sweet. Hints of Raisins and cedar.
I was really interested in trying this rum because of the wide range of ratings for it. It seems to be a love it or hate it rum. Most people that don't like it said it is too sweet, but I like sweet rums. And I really like this!
It has a lot going on. It kind of reminds me of the A.H. Riise Non Plus Ultra Very Rare Rum (though I slightly prefer that one).
Smells of sweet caramel, molasses, orange, spice, bubblegum, and vanilla. Taste also includes chocolate and candied fruits. It's a really nice rum to me. A thumbs up for sure!
This is the best sweet rum that I have ever tasted. Purists will probably not like it, but for me it is simply amazing.
Tried the Don Papa's 10 year in its natural habitat, in Manila the Philippines. Bottle looks fancy and the color of the liquid is deep and dark, but this is no rum. It smells and tastes like kids cough syrup with a very unpleasant artificial flavoring. Only very marginally smoother than the Don Papa's Small Batch. Trust me after 400 real dark rums later, you want to skip this one.
The top 10 worst rums I have ever tried:
1. Barbancourt 4y / 8y / 15y
2. Bounty Dark Rum from Fiji
3. Stroh 40 / 80
4. Plantation Pineapple Stiggin's Fancy
5. Villa Rica 23y
6. Mocambo 15y / 20y
7. Captain Morgan different variations
8. Don Papa 10y / 15y
9. Bacardi flavored "rums", all of them
10. Kraken rums
nez caramel plein pot
This is not that much of an improvement on the normal Don Papa. If anything it seems they've just added some darker sugar and black food colouring. Again, the marketing is excellent and if you like the bottle design, go for it. Just don't expect anything other than a sugar syrup.
After having tasted the classic Don Papa, this one was the next step to rum discovering. It is definitely better than the classic one, much more character, less sugared and more tasty, but still accessible. However, it does not worth its price. For the same amount, other rum with higher quality Can be discovered.
N- So the Don on the label got older, but the lizard on the head still remain young. Prelude with good ashy notes, darker with cocoa, as well rustier and mineral, bitter sweet, spent match stick and whiff of phenol from the wood. (18/25)
P- Sweet menthol, toothpaste, dust of pepper and herbs. More muscle with higher abv, dark coco and vanilla. The citrus from the 7YO is missing here, hence heavier and syrupy. (16/25)
F- Short-medium, boiled spices with more dryness offering a better mouth feel and make it for a better sip, though still sugary sweet and creamy. (17/25)
Balanced:- Surely not a serious and complex sipping rum, but not bad for a casual sips, would be nice with ice, by the pool, under the sun. Like the cocoa. (18/25)
Weighted Rate:- 69pt

I saw this rum at my local store and I must say the bottle design is quiet an eye catcher. But don't judge a book by its cover.
First time I tried it, the aroma really surprised me. It reminds me of an bubble gum ice cream I liked as a child. There are notes of orange and sticky sweetness.
On the palate you have nice fruity notes but not quite as complex as you expect from the aroma. Behind the sweet beginning there are some unpleasant alcoholic notes and the finish is not very long.
Ok - that's my favourite I ever tried.
Very dark color, great aroma like Don Papa, smooth and one of best design of bottle.
If you like sweet rum....must to try!
Mnam, I really like it. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
I like this rum. It sweet for a rum, one of the most sweet rums i ever tasted. It a hood 7.
This is worth having a taste if you are in Philippines. Good balance, sweet, smooth finish!
It's better than the 8 year, but not a top notch sipping rum
I can't put my finger on this rum. It smells really strange. Tried it at a rumfestival in Amsterdam. Just not my kind of rum.
Rum som kupil s ocakavanim exkluzivnej chuti,no prislo sklamanie.
Doesn't have the vanilla nose from the 7 year, stronger on spicy notes with cinnamon standing out. Goes down smoother than the former but not that great tasting either.
Well just returned from the Philippines and cracked this open... Better than Don Papa Small Batch. Very dark in color. Really reminds me of Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva. I will compare the two side by side in the near future. El Dorado 12 was my go to rum, and drinking this side by side, Don Papa is much smoother. Like I said reminds me a lot of Diplomatico. Going to have to try and save this one as I doubt I'll ever find it again.
