The Cadenheads Blackrock BBR 2000 was produced in Barbados by the West Indies Rum Distillery (WIRD) in Rockley style. This style was only used in 1986 and 2000. The Rockley Distillery was closed long bevor. After 11 years of storage, the BBR was bottled in cask strength of 59.1% alcohol without dyes, sugar or filtration.

The rum is something special for me in the nose. Little reminds of Barbados here. The smoky floral scent is immediately noticeable. In addition, there is a fresh fruity sweetness and some citrus resonates. When the rum is allowed to breathe, the scent becomes a little more harmonious. A great nose.

On the palate rhe rum is quite direct and the alcohol very nicely integrated. I taste sweet warm honey with smoked wood. Also some fruit and a peppery spice resonate. The rum has a pleasant complexity. The whole thing goes into a pleasant finish which is now a bit more classic with wood influence, some bitter substances and a pleasant sweetness. The whole thing remains present in the mouth for good length.

A great rum with unique flavors. The Rockley style convinced me immediately. Especially the nosing is simply beguiling and a lot of fun. Unfortunately, these rums are hardly affordable, especially in a reasonable cask strength. Nevertheless, I am glad to have tried this Cadenheads BBR.

An Barbados erinnert hier wenig. Such etwas Zitrus schwingt mit.

Another Rockley from the 2000 batch.

Nose: Floral start with vanilla and fresh wood. The typical Rockley flavors are present. Slightly vegetable Fiji flavor is also to be named here, but is only noticeable in the background. Also in the background are slightly grassy aromas like from PM. The rum seems a bit smoky and peppery, but that's not the cold ash, but a natural barrel aroma.
At this cask strength, I thought the flavors would be more intense. I let it stand for a while, the aromas intensify slightly, but nothing new is added.

Taste: Starts with vanilla and of course with honey sweetness. It gets warm in the mouth, there is more wood, also orange zest with pepper in connection with tannins. The sharpness increases, reinforces the wood and the pepper again. Vanilla is of course still present.
The finish is sharp, lots of wood, orange zest, vanilla and bitter tannins.

Aftertaste: vanilla, wood, tannins, light pepper

Conclusion: The rum is intense, the typical Rockley character can also be seen here. An influence of dried orange zest in connection with tannins, however, straddles in between and distracts a little. I would prefer a little more creaminess instead of pepperiness.
A decent, but not outstanding Rockley. That's why 87 points.
