Visited the Saint James distillery while vacationing in Martinique. Self guided distillery tour ended with a full open tasting bar. Saint James Cuvee d'Excellence has a very nice bottle design but boring label design. Golden color. Traditional very dry Rhum Agricole flavors complemented with plenty of grass, floral notes, spices and aniseed. Quite a strong burn at the end. Rhum Agricole lovers can easily add 2 points to my score.
I bought this rum in St. Martin last year at a Duty Free shop in Phillipsburg. The young lady who sold it to me said it was the very best rum and better than Ron Zacapa. I just opened the bottle tonight (Feb 6/16) and poured it over ice only to discover that it tastes like a cheap scotch. The seal was tight and was properly stored. I cannot help but claim that I am bitterly disappointed. I was looking forward to sharing this fine rum with friends and will now be pouring it down the drain.
