Aromas of a botanical garden and a flavour upfront like johnnie walker which finishes with that earthy vegatative dryness and cedar with banana leaf. Pretty good but could obviously do with some further aging and a bit more sweetness. Oh and that funk of an aftertaste of an agricole is its best feature.

It is the special niche of rums, that I am slowly getting my interest for. It’s whiskey-rums. Tastes like petrol, wood and tires. Not a bad one.

stram lukt og en smak av røyk som minner mer om whisky enn Rom.

I loved this rum, a perfect balance of scotch-like oak and rum sweetness. Very smooth, not overly dry. It’s simple, almost half scotch, half cane flavors, but it works really well. I’d give it a 10 if it wasn’t an agricole because I felt like the usual grassiness wasn’t there, and it was almost like a molasses rum base with just enough difference to tell it wasn’t. Still excellent.

When people here the word agricole they often associate it with dry or even harsh rums, but that is a misconception and this brand of rum is a perfect example of the more rounded and balanced agricoles.

Nose: Vanilla, pine and burned toast. Very earthy and juicy in the back.
Taste: Cinnamon, orange and mint blends well with a small hint of funk in the aftertaste.
Overall: If people want to get into agricoles this is one of the best ways to start. It is not overpowering on the "harsher" notes while still bringing the trademark taste of a true agricole.

This quite young agricule rhum is has typical aroma which is fresh fruity with hints of wood. In the taste there is lot of wood than hints of mint and liquorice. Aftertaste is fresh and fruity with hints of citruses and sweetness in the end. For 7 years quite interresting agricole rhum worth trying.

Gräs och kryddor i smaken, lite kort eftersmak. Krydd- och pepprigheten tar över.

If you like agricole, you get a lot of the good stuff in this bottle at a decent price. The rum sports a redish amber color and treats your nose with grass, crushed black grapes and vanilla. Not very complex but very nice in all it’s simplicity. In the mouth the crushed black grapes and grass is complimented by rounded wet wooden notes with a lovely hint of bitterness. A very approchable, decently balanced and nice agricole with spices and vanilla on the finish. What I like about Saint James in general is that it seems to be slightly less dry than other brands from martinique.

this is a much better example of the more rounded and balanced agricole that I had prior. Minor details collectively stopped me rating as a 7. Very earthy with a blow back warming my eyes.
Dry, very strong rum which remains as a warming experience. Very pleasant with Cola.

I'm not sure if my rating is on the right place here, because my bottle looks different from the main photo above. Unfortunately I couldn't find my bottle. But it's also a 7 year old Saint James with 43 % ABV, but not a "Reserve Privee".
Nose : wood ! A little vanilla and also caramel in the back

Palate : the barrel is in front, but also a little sweetness in the back. Not unpleasant on my tongue. The 43% ensure a peppery spiciness. Some seconds later a little smoke joins in. Hmm, a whiskey note spreads. More and more. I'm not an expert on whisky but I can remember the few moments when I tasted a whisky. And this reminds me of that.
After a little while a little fruitness of some orange notes creep onto the tongue.

Finish : medium. The peppery spiciness on the tongue remains. Unfortunately not more.

Conclusion : that was my first Agricole. So I don't know if this is the typical taste of an Agricole. But for me it's to much on the whisky side and to less on the rum side. That's why I call it the "Whiskum" in the title. Not a bad whisky and not a bad taste, but not a typical rum taste. And I wanted to drink a rum. That's the reason why my rating is only a 6. But a good 6 all in all.
