Got myself a bottle at my rum-runner friends' place after a free (thanks!) samples "beating" two other "underground" rums (Compagne des Indes Fiji 10yo, which was nice but somewhat less interesting, and New Grove Savoir Faire Acacia 8yo Rum, which had a strong and epic nose but the taste was overly peppery and smokey).
This rum has a very pleasant and quite strong nose as well with predominant oak tones with some nuts and little bit of ethanol and smoke and/or cigars.
The first sip is just awesome and did resemble me some of the finest rums I've ever had: Papiamento Aruba and Baoruco 21yo (which I believe both share the american oak barrel finish, even better taste but less dominant nose).
I also thought to resemble Ron Quorhum Sherry Cask but I did a direct comparison tasting tests and this one is very different (RQSC is twice as expensive but the taste is nowhere near Mombacho).
The flavor is very well balanced, smooth (almost creamy) yet very complex with somewhat drier and burnier (for me less tasty but certianly not over-burny) finish which, on the other hand, some of my friends really enjoy.
Verdict: this is very nice rum totally worth the money paid for. While it may not be groundbreaking or super original, I believe real rum joy is based on testing the untried and one bottle of this one is more than justified. Some claim it is the "volcanic" Nicaraguan ground that influences the collected sugar cane what gives this rum somewhat specific touch but I can't really recognize truth from legends.
To add one more comparison: the simplistic bottle and addictive nature did resemble me drinking Smith & Cross which also started "vaguely" but "something" did push me sip more and more, getting slowly but surely under one's skin.

Dark colour. Nose and taste of brown sugar. This rum definitely has a sweet note but it is not overly sweet like some other. For its relatively low price (same price as the Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva) I was quite suprised.

Plus habitué aux rhums épicés, ce rhum "nature" m'a beaucoup plu. Assez épais, bonne longueur en bouche, des goûts de caramel et de tabac selon moi. Je suis très agréablement surpris.

Mombacho series is more rich and deep taste for Flor de Cana of the same Nicaraguan Rum.
The taste and aroma is dark chocolate and butter caramel, and not so sweet than Flor de Cana series.
Good balance Rum.

In this specific case I feel that not so many words need to be written: it is a rather simple & uncomplicated rum, but at the same time, an honest & pleasant one, that can be enjoyed every day. Beautiful, deep color & rich texture, although at the price that it is bought in my country (45 euros) more demanding rums can be bought.
P.S. : it's rather odd, but in its country of origin I couldn't find it (in Nicaragua Flor De Cana reigns supreme everywhere!)

Mombacho 12 years. Rum with the right balance between aromas and hints given by the aging process.

až zajímavý, balením vypadá hodně levně, ale díky barvě a hlavně chuti velmi zajímavý rum

havde ingen forventninger til denne rom da jeg smagte den, men den overraskede mig til det positive.
fin rom, men ikke en flaske jeg kunne finde på at købe selv.
