Ron Esclavo XO Cask

Wow! I don't usually sip overproofs, but this is delicious. At 130 proof (65% ABV), this sipper has a lot of heat. Take small sips and let the flavor wash over your mouth. I'm getting notes of chocolate and coconut, with a long finish of dried fruit.

Well, enough said, if you like sugarbombs, go for it, you won't be disappointed, it is heavily laden with sugar and caramel, some 80gpl of sugar here I guess. Smell and taste totally destroyed by sugar, it is like caramel pancake topping. For one fourth of the price I would buy it to put it on an ice cream. But for the price of Doorly 14y, OMG, I am so glad I did not buy the whole bottle and just a sample. If you like AH Riise - run to buy the bottle, otherwise avoid. Checking the empty glass, I could find traces of wood (otherwise hidden in the sugar/caramel orgy when you drink the thing), well, good, but at the least same intensity I can find in Don Q Anejo or Doorly 5y - there goes the "aged" rum - five year cask strength laden with sugar and what not, thank you very much.

Wow! What a taste! Caramel, butterscotch, cinnamon and other spices. The 65 % ABV makes it more interesting. It is very smooth and sweet. The taste is thick.

I don't want to spoil the local high rating. I love this brand, but this is a little too much for me ...
I can only smell alcohol in the smell, my throat burns after drinking and it's like some absinthe, not good rum. I like Esclavo XO 42% much more, to which I will return.

Nechci kazit místní vysoké hodnocení. Tuhle značku miluji a verzi XO si cením mezi svými klenoty na přední příčce, ale tohle už je na mne trochu přespříliš...
Ve vůni cítím jenom líh, po napití mi shoří hrdlo a je to jako nějaký absint, ne dobrý rum. Mnohem víc mi chutná Esclavo XO 42%, ke kterému se vrátím.

Rigtig lækker rom med alt det gode fra en mørk rom. Den har power og stor smag. Den lidt brændte sukker i afslutningen er det der gør at den ikke får top karakter, men det er godt nok tæt på.

Stark! Bara en sipp och spara i munnen. De olika smakerna fortsätter att komma.

That has been the most full and rounded rum I have tasted so far. Take in account I am not too much versed into rums, but have my fair deal of tasting to be able to compare. And this rum has made full justification to my expectations. May you be warned! If you’re not into really hard high voltage alcohol, do not go for this one - you will spoil your experience and the rating of this gem! Amazing full body rum with a strong kick into your head and right into your heart. I love it!

Wow! Sweet but very well balanced because of the 65% alcohol, and with an aftertaste that lasts forever.

A blend of rums from the Dominican Republic aged 12 - 15 years, bottled at 65% cask strength. This is the 3rd version of the same name. The first version had rums aged up to 23 years.

Bottle: Slim, rounded. 0.5 litre only.
Colour: Dark amber.
Nose: Stronger (the higher ABV is really noticeable), but not aggressive. On the contrary, it is very pleasant. In the aroma I smelled honey, vanilla, caramel, Czech rum praline, dark chocolate, overripe orange and a little wood.
Taste: In one word, great! Sweet and strong, making the sip burn on the palate and tongue. You can find there spices (cloves, nutmeg), apricot-orange marmalade, dark-milk chocolate, sweet grapes.
Aftertaste: Long.

Summary: An excellent combination of sweetness and sharpness that warms the throat. This is a taste experience that I recommend. If it were a tad less sweet, I would give it a clear 10 points.
