Taste like a spiced rum. Heavy vanilla. Works ok mixed
This stuff, straight, tastes like cough syrup. I think this rum was made to be taken in mixed drinks. When mixed with cola a double shot actually tastes better than a single.
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

It was with great trepidation that I sampled this rum. Some time ago I tried their "silver" rum which proved to be completely horrid. It set the bar exceedingly low for the brand.
As to the origin of the rum...there seems to be great confusion. Some brand source claimed the rum is Jamaican...then they changed to "Jamaican style rum". The label to this rum claims it is a product of the Virgin Islands (doesn't specify whether American or British) and imported. However one online source claims "Despite being labeled as 'Jamaican rum,' it is filed with the federal Tax and Trade Bureau as produced in Kentucky with contributing distilleries all across the Sazerac." The Beverage Tasting Institute gave the rum an 86 but that was in 2010 and probably the claim that it is produced in Kentucky could plausibly be from that same timeframe. Suffice to say, this rum is not the same rum from 2010. It appears to have declined in quality and taste.
Honestly I cannot recommend this rum at all. Even though it is better than the Margaritaville silver rum, it's still poor quality. That's too bad.
