Quite funky on the nose (rotten fruit and vegetable), taste is totally different. Light-medium body, with some nice, light fruitiness, some bitterness (in a good way), a hint of smoke, semi-dry, mild molasses on the finish, with nothing off-putting. Available in a 375ml if you'd like to give it a try. Although the nose funk might be off-putting to a new comer to Jamaican rum, the taste should be more than tolerable. I gather this is the same as the Black, with more caramel coloring added, and while very similar, I detect something more phenolic in the Black version. I prefer the gold, but the black is good too.

This is so good I put it in coffee on Sundays.

If this is what rums used to be like, then I'd gladly trade the internet for a trip to yesteryear. So fragrant and flavorful. You'd be wise to pick a bottle up for yourself.

They even come in little beer bottle sizes. (350ml?) Perfect for a two person adventure.

I'd call this the gap between Smith and Cross and Wray and Nephew or Rum Fire in the funk department. I'm not sure I would buy it again since I love Smith and Cross, and If I want something funkier I'll just use Rum Fire. I don't see these extra funky rums as sippers or base rums, but used as "condiments" in certain cocktails.

I'm curious how this compares side by side to Dr. Bird which I am trying to get a hold of, because I'm thinking this is the closest thing I have to it.

Rotten Banana, Peppermint, Vanilla Bean? Very difficult to parse, but super funky and I can't get enough of it. Different funk than I'm used to, less 'sharp'

This disappeared just as fast as the Navy. Hamilton for the money is perfect. I could stock Hamiltonโ€™s Line up and Doorlyโ€™s and be pretty set. Except maybe an agricole.

A light, unaged Jamaican rum. Its a bit unsettle if you have it neat, I'd recommend it mostly for mixing in cocktails (which I believe is entirely what it's made for). It does open up more and become more sweet/fruity as it rests in the glass.

From the minute it hits your nose you know this is going to be funky on the tongue. It has a solid taste but not the depth of some other of the Jamaican "funk" rums. This is a nice rum but if you are a really looking for funk try Dr. Bird or another with a broader flavor profile.

The aromas upfront are fruity and warming. Molasses and soft sweetness. Flavor is drying and firm. Woody (or similar) with hints of fleeting caramel, leather and smokiness. Some of the expected funkiness too. A bit less funk than I would have expected.
Overall I'm just a little less complex than expected, I'd like a bit more depth of flavor but it does make a really excellent mixing rum. When used in tiki drinks it seems to really give them character! For the price it's a solid buy. Not my go to for a neat sipping rum. For what it is it's really nice. This will definitely do the job in a lot of drinks calling for a good moderately funky Jamaican pot still rum. Always on the shelf.
Same as the Pot Still Black minus the caramel color.

Good introduction to hogo flavors for those that havent experienced it. It really packs a punch for those initial tasters and is fun to drink.

Bitter flavor with a strange after taste. It is bad straight and just as bad mixed. It has a slight gold color, which it turns out comes from them putting just a little bit of caramel color it. One of the worst rums that Inhave had.
