Very dark in the bottle. I like the wax looking seal. I can smell molasses with a hint of coconut and an almost fermented, warm scent. First sip is heavy on the molasses, which I like. Then there is anise, cinnamon, maybe nutmeg, and again a fermented flavor. Closest thing I can compare it to is the smell of silage, but in a good way. The initial burn is quick and slowly fades. There is a nice aftertaste of molasses and anise. I probably won't use this as a sipper, but should work well in a cocktail.

I have been drinking this for years, it is my go to distillery for rum (and I live in Portland where there is a lot of choices). I love rum where the flavor of molasses comes through. This is a great dark rum with enough spice to be interesting but not so much that the flavor of the base rum is muddled. It is a beautiful dark color with a fragrant nose. Great to sip straight, but I really love it in a dark and stormy. I can use less of the rum since the flavor is so amazing...this means I can enjoy more drinks!
One negative: it can be a bit hard to find in my local liquor stores so I have to hunt it out.
