Unusual, not like plantation. Very nice and unfiltered.
Pot and column still Jamaican. On the nose is the best part - the funkiness. After that not so much happens with this one. In the mouth there is some overripe fruits and banana. The finish is not long and there is no burn at all. Overall is smooth and drinkable. If i cath it on sale i will get a bottle again, otherwise go to Appleton 12 - better choice.
Остър послевкус на тютюн, не особено приятен. Определено няма да повторя
An unsweetend, uncolored, unfiltered "raw" rum (very pale colored). A blend of many various aged rums (ain't particularly excited about this information). I would say British style. Not really at all Jamaican in the nose (or overall Jamaican level of quality, if comes to that), had mixed feelings at best for the first sip. Dry and woody rum with quite a long aftertaste, typical Mezan style. I have tested Mezan Guyana recently as well and wasn't at all happy about it either. It reminds me of "Rum & Cane" (Spanish cask) or "Ultimatum" rums with sorta similar philosophy and handwriting. Not even remotely comparable to some of J. masterpieces such as Hampdon family or Smith & Cross.
Both nose and palate are decently fruity with a hint of wood. Seems to me rather like a mongrel of British and Spanish style, the bourbon cask finish is not at all present to me. The ABV is boringly low (40) and the body itself is not very recognizable or groundbreaking. An average rum for money paid (about 850 CZK) with a nice paper box as a bonus.
Light, banana-ish and very sweet. Quite enjoyable.
Light colored, but has some depth. It’s funky enough.
Quite light, has some burn, not too much sweetness, but some nice banana coming through in the smell. I prefer darker, deeper and mellower tastes, so not for me.
I find this pretty one dimensional.
For me the nose is the best bit. A pleasant subtle amalgam of acetone, varnish and banana.
The taste though is all banana. Not strong, with a subtle burn, a touch of oak and just a little sweet.
The finish is short, leaving a bit of banana overlaying distinct dryness.
Overall, I find it too simple. If I just want funk, I would rather drink Smith and Cross - it has more richness and a longer finish. For a simple supper, I'd rather drink Mount Gay Eclipse.
Some oak and woody notes, quite a lot of spice.
"Pretty smooth initially with some considerable heat coming through on the palate which gives way quickly to a pretty short finish."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label
