Very nice sipping rum, especially for the price! Natural sweetness, caramel, fruit. Also 43% which is nice as most are 40% at this price point. 8/10
Very good rum. Feel his class and high quality. It comes from Foursquare distillery. It is a very good, cheaper alternative to the Foursquare brand. No added sugar is his advantage for me. This is a very good example as it should taste rum, including without additives. Despite this, it's nice, naturally sweet, rich aroma and smell, long pleasant finish. I'm happy to come back to him. One of the best I drink.
Being manufactured in one of the world’s best distillery, the quality and value make this rum a great buy. Low on the sweetness which probably characterizes the distillery’s commitment to limiting sugar additives, and rich flavor.
I just sipped this side by side with the Doorly's XO and this is a much more full bodied rum. The nose brings aromas of a slight toffee sweetness, caramel, a bit of tire rubber and leather. The palette is nice with notes of coconut, more caramel, leather again amid hints of orange and dark fruit, like figs and raisins. I really like this and it is definitely in my rotation for a sipping rum, I wish it was just a little more complex and had just a bit of a longer finish. But for the price it is a very solid offering.
Sipping this also made me revise my rating and review for the XO. Sipping the two side by side made it obvious how thin the main palette of the XO is.
I am super impressed with the various doorly expressions, Mr Seale, and his stance on sugaring. The 12 year old has a nice bit, but is still lovely with lots of black pepper and green vegetal mixed with molasses. It's not a heavy rum though. It drinks very light. And all for the low $20s.... Wow. This is a shelf staple now.
It’s unsweetened, it’s 43%. Must be dry strong, harsh,... And it’s definitely not at all. It has a wood smell and a wood aftertaste. The first taste is little pepper, little sour little sweet. My conclusion; it’s a really balanced rum with nothing very special. A simple but good rum. If u find it to peppery I would recommend u the trigo reserva anejo. It has almost the same taste. Enjoy!
My go to gift for non-rum drinkers who think only of the big brands. This is an amazing taste to value rum.
Fajny!! Starzony chyba w beczkach po Burbonie bo czuć to wyraźnie ;) fajny zapach ... Taki prawdziwy. Wejdzie butla
Fruity aroma, sweetness without added sugar and strong dark chocolate aftertaste that lasts forever. All of this at such a bargain price.
Familiar notes of vanilla and light toffee/caramel.
"An initial hit of sweetness, brown sugar and a little spicy pepper is overtaken by dry oaked flavour and a nice spiced heat. The finish is very smooth and long lasting."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Oh my! An absolute Top Shelf rum for $23. This is insane

This is my first foray into the rums of RL Seale...and oh my what a delight! I bought this bottle for $23 from Total Wines in Georgia in what I now believe to be the deal of the decade. This is an absolutely incredible rum for the price. The nose is wonderfully aromatic with heavy orange and banana notes along vanilla, toffee, and floral essences. The first taste to hit your tongue is bananas with leather and spice. Mid palate, the leather disappears and is replaced by a lovely combination of Banana, vanilla, orange, cinnamon, and nutmeg. The finish is mostly oak with a lovely undertone of caramel. It is definitely on the drier side with no viscosity at all, but it really is wonderful. I never expected a rum with 0 sugar added and a $23 price tag to be so wonderfully complex - and with almost all my favorite flavors to match. A 12 year rum with this flavor complexity and depth at $23 is simply stunning! The only criticism at all is that the aftertaste is so short - I want more of it. Regardless this is now going to become my default rum when I am in the mood for something drier. It is a crying shame that only Total Wine carries this brand. Oh well, at least I live close to one.
*Edit* I am just going to say it: this is the best $25 bottle of rum on the planet. 4 months in and I am bumping this one up to a 10 on the value alone. I have paid twice and much more for far inferiors rums. This is just a slight notch below Foursquare 2007 and I paid $80 for that (Foursquare 2007 is indeed better but not by a whole lot).
Given the price to quality ratio, this is absolutely a 10
