To be honest, i never bought or planned to buy this bottle, even though i encountered this in younger age as bar mixer. perhaps it is the reason that i am a hater of Rum and Cola, a state which i will never recover from. my Current 1Ltr bottle was given to me a present by my mother who was convinced by a young duty free seller that if her son likes Rum she must bring this to him... (pity as there so many better Rums in their selection for slight more dollars). however this is the situation and as i am struggling to decide what i think about Captain Morgan Dark, i am sipping and reading the ratings here, but my opinion gets obscured, either by the negative short reviews, or the few highly positive, one more aspect that puzzles me is all those who wrote that this is a great mixer especially with Cola. to be honest, i poured and mixed it with my Cola and it simply ruined the Cola combined into undrinkable bitter sweet medical in the bad sense mixture. yes, i hate their legendary CM with Cola. i am out of the closet on that. i drink this Dark murky Sweet to Nausea Rum straight. i tried to add quarter of a lemon, but it didn't help either. after three drams, i finally seen the light, a tin of sardines in chilly pepper sauce helped me to decide. it's not as bad as the first impression made. it is actually more drinkable straight, not mixed, than mixed (where it's heavy notes overcome the other components). the Brown suger molasses are dominant in this one, to be fair, i am sipping this after getting used to higher tier rums and it's not easy to judge this product fairly. as per alcohol and distillation quality, it's clearly good quality product, no hangover or bad/cheap alcohol effects. since it is drinkable on it's own, even though bit harsh due to the condensation of sugar and artificial vanilla flavors, after the third dram one gets used to the taste and can easily continue drinking plentifully till dropping drunk. that i believe is a virtue of the final product, and probably the reason why it is rather common and popular after all the negative opinions. final words would be, that it's drinkable, but for a small upgrade in price you can get much tastier and higher ranked rums which makes it's price point vs quality quite problematic, it strongly relies on it's strength as a super brand and it's presence on supermarket shelves which wouldn't stock more choice than this and Bacardi and Negrita. while in specialty stores where prices is also set by volume of alcohol it's easy to find better Rums for this price such as El Dorado 8 years. My rating conclusion, since there are worst popular Rums in CM range and it's immediate competition as Bacardi, since it's drinkable on it's own, it is worth more than 4. i guess 4.5 would represent my impression the best so i am being generous and rating it with a 5. 22.2.22 updated from 5 to 6/10 it grew on me.

To make this short - if you're just looking to get pissed drinking cheap crappy booze, go for it. But if you want to taste rum, don't bother. Industrial alcohol, sugar, colorant, and artificial flavors.

Captain Morgan is my rum of choice when I go out or travel. I prefer to drink CM with Sprite Zero and enjoy roughness of the rum when being social with friends and family.

It's not up to much but is probably one of the best known and first tried rums for most people. I dare say it switches off as many people as it turns on. It's like a fairly tasteless dark, alcoholic syrup with a burn. It's sweet in a cloying way, has a certain spice that is undistiguishable and bland. And strangely...it does taste ok in cola or Dr Pepper. That's about it. I find it hard to drink neat. It's way too rough and uninteresting.

Cred că e bun în prăjituri... Sau să speli ceva cola sau... Atât.

It's very good mixed with Coca-Cola, but not suitable for drinking it straight. To much taste of spirit, but I prefer this over the spiced one.

Works in cocktails, especially Cuba Libre. Not otherwise

Somebody once said: Rum doesn't have to be good, it just has to be plentiful. I suppose he meant this one.
