Plantation Original Dark Trinidad

I like plantation rums, and I wanted to like this more for the price, but the prominent alcohol and associated murky notes ruined it as a sipper. As a mixer it is a secondary go-to, to add a bit of punch to drinks that are helped with a mild amount of funkiness - though the Barbados 5yr is often superior.

Přiznám se, že toto je první rum spadajících pod značku Plantation, který jsem ochutnal. Evidentně se jedná o low-end produkt mezi Plantationy, ale mě celkem chutnal. Už vůně byla bomba - doslova. Tak intenzivní ovocné aroma jsem opravdu nečekal. Zajímavé bylo jak se vůně vynořovaly čím víc jsem rum nechal odstát a kroužil jsem sklenkou. V chuti je alkohol cítit výrazně, ale zase ne nějak extra nepříjemně. Jak kdyby alkohol nevěděl, jestli má ještě vzdorovat, nebo už se poddat. Zajímavý zážitek. Má prostě svůj styl, rozhodně si ho nespletete.

SImple rum: dark, sweet, with raisins, wood and spices. Works well in a mixer, like a dark and stormy.

Has everything you want in a dark rum; good smooth molasses flavour. Great to mix with coke, ice and lime, or have on its own. Perhaps a biased review because dark rum is my favourite.

My standard choice on a budget. Easily could get a 7-8/10 if you based strictly on the value for money balance.
In the price range, this is definitively RUM, not liqueur nor gasoline. Is the golden standard for rums around 20 euros.
Smooth, very easy drinkable, with some complexity.
Nice and smooth to the nose, not too alcoholic, with rumy molasses tones.
Sweet taste with some dried fruit tones. The double aged process leaves some wood tones too. Moderate aftertaste. Not bad at all.
I should say again that for its price, this is probably one of the best rums you can buy.

I tend to rate on a value scale. Based on price, this rum is near the top. It doesn't have much to offer other than being somewhat smooth and flavorful for a great price. Think of this as a base mixer. Other rums I consider to compete with this rum for price, and purpose are Appleton Signature, Plantation 3 Star, and Kaniche Reserve (made by Plantation/Ferrand)

One of the best, smoothest rums I’ve ever tasted!

It’s not particularly idiosyncratic, but a good rum need not be.

It’s delicious, without the slightest hint of roughness.
