Thanks so much for submitting a report. It has been emailed to the Rum Captain and will be actioned shortly.
Vzhledem k ceně není nejhorší, trošku ostřejší ale stále chutná
Un bon petit rhum pour le prix. Pas extraordinaire mais un goût assez original! :-)
Dark colored tastes like bourbon. Great to mix with coke.
That's about it.
Sweet smell, nice caramel colour, no hay-like taste like other Plantation rums. Simple taste, not woody, not spiced. Simply sweet and fruity.
I kind of expected a bit more from this rum. Even as a mixer it kind of disappointed.
Amber color. Smokiness with hints of dried fruit.Too harsh for me as a sipper. Adding ice made it passable. Certainly works well as a mixer with lime and as others have said can be had for a good price. Just average but hey it's rum so enjoy.
Even though I am not a big fan of Plantation this rum is somehow drinkable, considering the rather low price. But for me its not more and not less than that.
Btw: I tried the new version with the sticker "original dark" on top of the label (see picture from Ramon on 7 Aug '16 ).
Alkohol: 40 %
Původ: Trinidad a Tobago
Aroma: Na to, že se jedná o jeden z nejlevnějších rumů pod značkou Plantation, je vůně na dost vysoké úrovni. Středně těžká i plná. Sladkost asi 1/3, s exotickým dřevem, těžkou ovocností, medem, medovinou, lehce i cedrem a tabákem. (85 b)
Chuť: Na jazyku se míchá jemnost s pikantní štiplavostí a nasládlostí koření, rumové pralinky. Je to takový ten klasický rumový styl, kdy opravdu nepřemýšlíte, jestli vám náhodou nepřipomíná brandy nebo sherry whisky. Působí navíc silněji, než na 40%, a je i dost výrazný. (83 b)
Fair mixer, stands up and doesn't get over-powered.
When its cheap (~15€) its good rum for value, but at the regular (~25€) price there are better rums.
I think I am talking about the same rum. I went to my local store and this one was new. I was totally drawn in by the busy bottle design with a nice curves in the neck and a stamp molded into the glass. You could sit for hours just reading the story on the label. Anyway the rum is strong and dark, a bit harsh as others have stated. Very much like pussers British Navy for my palette.
Excellent nose and taste for good money. Recommended!
You can compare it to a meyers just a typical rum and coke rum
this rum is not good for the pure taste. if youre drinking it neat, its a bit harsh. but with sugar and lemon juice and ice you´ll get a very good caipi.
This is great with coke doesn't knock my socks off.... Excellent flavour...
Here in Quebec, the Original Dark from Plantation is only available via private import, which means you need to buy at least one case at the time and go through an elaborate ordering process.
Luckily for me, I have some very Rum enthusiastic friends, and so last summer I ordered two cases that we shared together.
Priced at 30$ CAD, I personally think the only other product that matches its quality price ratio is the El Dorado 8 yo. All of my friends agree that it is very tasty and extra smooth. I went through practically an entire bottle with one of my friend the 1st time I tasted it, just sipping it on the rocks (beware, it then becomes extra smooth and dangerous, with delicious coffee and chocolate milk flavours).
Since then I used it in Painkillers and to bake some Rum cakes for the Holidays.
Just another one for collection purpose, I cant have money in my pockey, they burn hole :) So better spend them on rum!
perfect mixing rum! I use it as my pouring dark rum
Got this bottle as a Christmas gift from some friends. They got the version from Trinidad and Tobago, which seems to be the best version looking at the comments here.
For me this is a good mixer, but could be sipped too if your standards are not very high.
Beautiful amber color liquid in the bottle. The aroma is sweet reminding me of melting caramel candy. The flavor is also quite sweet with caramel, vanilla and some spiciness. Definitely too sweet to be a sipping rum. Must be a mixing rum. Tried it in Coke Zero and it didn't work well. The sweetness of the rum just adds to the sweetness of the Coke Zero and it made it seem I was drinking syrup with a little carbonation. I'm afraid it would do the same with fruit-based drinks or other mixed drinks that contain sweet ingredients.
A good use...which I will myself try...appears to be a counter for bitters and coffee drinks. I think a coffee with this rum might actually be ideal.
The old version (Trinidad & Tobago) used to be the best among its price class in my humble opinion. Too bad it's not available anymore and instead we get a rough and almost "smokey" new Trinidad & Jamaica version which I couldn't really enjoy straight up at all.
It's all a matter of taste of course but to me a very good and cheap everyday straight up rum has died. R.I.P.
It's a nice rum. Quite sweet. Its pretty cheap too.
Distinct flavour different from any other distillate I've had. Seems very artificial and sweet.
Might work in a cocktail in particular but i have yet to find which one.
