Powerful in the nose with sweet notes. Rpund in mouth but somehow too typical with a feeling of deja bu!

Tasted a few times, last time in November at a Plantation event hosted by the brand Ambassador. The Plantation Guyana is always quite a surprise, especially in a "blind" (my Sommellerie teacher would say anonymous) tasting.
Produced by the huge Demerara Distillers Limited, it starts with an unusually long two weeks molasses fermentation. It is then distilled in a Vendome Pot still, aged in used bourbon cask for a few years locally and finished in Cognac cask back in France.
Result is intense, with some smoky even peated notes. At first it could easily be mistaken for a Scotch Whisky. Also some delicious fig, caramel and currants aromas. Dense mouth feel, cardamom and bitter orange flavours. Harmonious. Long finish on an apricot note.

The El Dorado 12 and 15yo rums are tasty, albeit loaded with sugar. This batch, on the other hand, is nowhere near as complex or delicious and it's twice the price of the 12. Certainly not a bad sipper but it should be much better. And it shouldn't have any perfume overtones. It does.

It's okay, but it's not remotely among my favorites.

For me it was a bit to ‘’dry’’ it was a long time in the cabinet, finally I finished this one in coctails. . .

In Donn Beach's rum list Demerara rums are described as high in esters. So after having made aquaintance with various El Dorado blends up to the 8 yo. I thought I'd have to try a pure pot still Demerara rum like this Plantation filling from 2005. Surprisingly it struck me as more lightly flavoured than the El Dorado 8 yo and not as nutty. Which makes some sense, as this has spent only 7 years in the tropics and only in Bourbon casks. But while it was less powerful, it had a very nice, more subtle flavour reminiscent of toffee. So for a cocktail like Donn Beach's Navy Grog I prefer this subtle, delicious Demerara rum over the rather rough El Dorado 8 yo.

Has some sweetness and an enjoyable pour - I believe they add sugar as is often their case

Small fact from plantation “Guyana is the only rum in the Plantation range to have sugar cane syrup as its raw material ”

Really enjoyed this rum, nice on the nose, lovely golden colour, slightly sweet taste, some people say its over sugared but u enjoyed it. Not as good as El Dorado 12yr which is in the same price point but we'll worth trying if you enjoy El Dorado, Abuelo, Flor de Cana or Diplamatico you should like this one. It's good neat, allow to breath in the glass first, not as long a finish as El Dorado or Abuela but still a nice sipper. Also good in a Dark n Stormy.

This rum is overpacked with oak so much that it tastes exactly like a sweeter bourbon
