Easily consumable in a bind
Enjoyed a bottle of Flying Dutchman No. 1 Light Rum while vacationing in Malta. Very nice looking bottle and label design. Pure alcohol to the nose and palate mixed with vanilla. Mix it with your favorite soda and down it goes. At EUR 32 a bottle, its pretty expensive mixer rum.
I don't generally drink unaged, white rum (I think the label says it is aged for six months), but this was a gift and it surprised me. It was smooth and fairly vanilla-sweet (just within my range of tolerable sweetness), not nearly as much burn or alcohol taste as their older, darker rum (which I didn't much like). I thought it was very clean, almost vodka-like, with hints of genever, which is not surprising seeing as Zuidam is predominantly a genever company.
