Old J Spiced rum is made from British Virgin Islands pot stilled rum that is blended with spices, vanilla and lime. The Old J rum company was founded in honor of Admiral Edward Vernon, who in 1740 enforced a reduction in the strength of the British Navyβs rum ration and suggested using limes and sugar to make the drink more enjoyable.

Purported to be almost an exact copy of the original Sailor Jerry recipe, I would say it actually tastes closer to the current (less good, but still very pleasant) Sailor Jerry recipe. A slight upgrade on Morgan's Spiced, but not quite as good as Sailor Jerry, in my opinion.
The flavouring is a bit cloying / overdone compared to some more premium spiced rums (and compared to the original Sailor Jerry).

I tried the entirety of the Old J line at work and was surprised. The original Old J Spiced is comparable in flavour and profile to Captain Morgan, but with a nicer finish and higher quality. If you're normal a Captain drinker, I highly recommend giving Old J Spiced a try the next time you're pouring a drink.

Like the vanilla essence, very smooth, just a little unsure if the flavour it too much or not
This is a sweet vanilla rum with taste of butterscotch.
Great vanilla flavours, amazing aroma. Mixes well with ginger or cola
Very smooth and can certainly taste the vanilla! Great with ice and a mixer or on its own

Great vanilla flavour, highly drinkable. Often have a bottle in the cabinet for emergencies.

Good god , from the moment you unscrew the cheap cap artificial vanilla smacks you in the face !! Its overpowering.. neat or mixed you know what the taste is gonna be before you get it to your lips.
Rum flavoured vanilla would be about right.
Then on top of the vanilla bomb comes artificial limes , it all ends up as a sickly toffee drink... It was cheap so no real surprise ! All the people that have given this high ratings haven't tried enough good stuff imho.
