I like the rum smooth, and a bit sweet, without added too much sugar. I got this bottle last summer at the Rombo store in Copenhagen. You can sit for 15 minutes, and just smell it, before the first zip. Then you get a cascade of tastes, and you can sit there, sucking on that one little zip for 5 minutes.
I will definitely take that trip to Rombo, and get another bottle, the next time I visit Denmark.

Great taste of chocolate, vanila, strong taste. All taste very balanced , luxury RUM

I compared this liquid treasure with another famous gem from Olivier & Oliver : the Quorhum 30-year.
I must admit that it would be hard to make a choice. Both have a lot in common : gentle nose, deep color, incredible smoothness around vanilla, caramel, dried fruits.
However, I tend to think the Cubaney tastes a little bit more complex. More surprises int the mouth after a initial feel-good sensation. Moreover, the finish of the Cubaney lasts much longer, which would encourage me to have another glass from this one. All in all, these are two must-have for any rum collector on the west side, along with the Plantation XXe anniversary, which shares a lot too with the two rums I compared but on a more fruity and more "gourmand" side.

Cubaney has a new package. It looks better than the old one in my opinion.
I know some other rums that go in that direction (QRM30, Cubaney 21 and 25). They are not that good but a way cheaper.
Yes, there are some similarities with QRM30. QRM has more sherry aroma, more wood, more alcohol in the nose. Cubaney is more balanced, more intense in the taste, it's heavier, I think it's older.
But QRM has a better value for the price.
So why is it a 9? Easy to explain, there is too much sherry influence, you can not recognize the original rum. Yes it's tasty, it's complex and intensive, but sherry is not a distillery character and also not a note that is typical for DomRep rums.

Smell: Caramel, wood, some sherry, fruits/dry fruits (apricot, cherries, peach), burned sugar. Very nice, very smooth, well balanced.

Taste initial: Caramel, sweetness, red fruits, fruits (apricot)
Middle: wood with apricots, honey, sherry
Finish: spice, burned suggar, again wood with apricots.
Aftertaste: Sherry and cherry compote, dry apricot (I expected that, typical for Oliver & Oliver).

Sweetness: 2.5/5
Spice: 2.5/5
Fruit: 3.5/5
Mildness: 4/5
Value (80€): 2.5/5

Similar Rums:
Quorhum 30 (not that balanced)
Cubaney 21 and 25 (not that balanced, more spicy)

Hard to say about this one. I had it in a plastic cup after a cigar at the Don Lucas factory in Dominican Republic. So Im nit sure I'll do it justice. Felt a lot of punsch flavors and alcohol at first, then it softened and let out some sweet caramel

Very well balanced and overall pretty good. Although a bit pricey for it's only slightly better than average flavor.

In this RUM you can find almost everything. Not too much sweet, but you can identify the sweet tones. Not dry, but you feel the wood, tabaco and full body. Strong but not burning (after 10min in glass) Mild and long aftertaste ending with ground tones.

In the glass you first smell some alcohol but after a while you get sweet aromas from toffee, vanilla and almonds. The aftertaste is deep sweetness with a little dark chocolate and vanilla.

I would compare this one to the Centenario 30. It's a bit rounder, less wood and more vanilla. Got it for a friend, but would definitely buy one for my collection

Notes of fruits, coffee, chocolate and spices. Good average rum
