Smagt til romhattens romfestival 2019, den får en 6’er.
We can all have our preferences, but at the end of the day, sometimes you just need one that can "do it all". And this one is "the guy". A great benchmark to compare other rums to, even if its to elevate your favorite.
Nose - Caramel, Coffee, Earthy
Palate - Vanilla, Nutmeg, Smoke
Great mouthfeel. Very clean finish.
This shows how complex an unadulterated rum can be. It also does this while remaining accessible to a "beginning sipper". Real McCoy can be used to add some class to your cocktails but it really shines sipped neat. There's plenty of caramel, leather, vanilla, a bit of barrel char, some fresh tobacco and a hint of coconut. Wonderful stuff.
This is a good sipping rum with lots of vanilla and oak.
Picked this up after hearing great things about Foursquare, I'm glad I did.
Nose: I get brown sugar and banana
Taste: Chocolate, oak, a little pepper
Solid rum from start to finish. Nice balance, not too sweet or too much burn. I just don’t think there was anything memorable about this to warrant the price tag.
Not the best rum I’ve tasted from Barbados but it holds its own. Very satisfied!
Rum jsem koupil v akci a jsem mile překvapen. Jedná se o velice slušné pití.
I have this and the Doorly's 12yo side by side to compare. The Doorly's is 43% while the McCoy is 46%
They are both really lovely rums, that I enjoy a lot.
The McCoy is possibly the better. The nose is slightly fuller, and the body is softer, richer and fuller. However, the Doorly's has a much better finish. It's a purer rum and one that has an acidity to it that isn't masked by the oak, which gives it a much longer and fuller finish that is also a lot more complex. It show's up it's cousin in quite a big way. But if I had to choose one, it would be hard as I do like oak, but then I really do like a long finish.,
And then there is the elephant in the room.......PRICE.
I get these from the importer - same company does both. The Doorly's 12yo is 45% cheaper, and that makes the McCoy a real non starter, however nice it is. This McCoy 12yo is only just a bit cheaper than the Doorly's 14yo. Therefore I cannot see myself buying this again.
Mature tropical fruits, demerara sugar, oak and baking spices
"The Real McCoy 12-Year rum review by a Mountain of Crushed Ice"
Has some very Bourbon like sweet/sour like notes.
"It is rich, intense and quite spicy. Very oaky yet not overly dry."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

So many new start up rums sourcing stock from great distilleries like Four Square. Tried it prefer the real thing, don’t like middle man rums that tend to be over priced for what you get. One time purchase not worth the investment.
