Dark smooth light flavours for mixing not a sipping rum

As a mixed rum quite ok,...pure i do not like it too much. The smell is boring and alcoholic and the same feeling is continued while sipped.

I do not get what is so "old" about it,...i prefer the not so old three year old havanna club which is even cheaper :)

I would not buy it again though.

This is what you get when in DR while staying at a resort. Not bad in various mixed drinks.

Brugal Extra Viejo Gran Reserva Familiar is aged 8 - 12 years in the Dominican Republic. It is quite low priced and shouldn麓t be compared with way more expensive premium rums.

The bouquet isn麓t really complex and dominated by oak.

So is the body dominated by wood with only little hints of fruits. Brugal Extra Viejo is moderate sweet and has a little harsh aftertaste.
Though it isn`t to complex in taste Brugal Extra Viejo might work well with a nice cigar. Its strong wood character is interesting but not overwhelming.

I would recommend this rum for all of you looking for a cheap non-sweet rum for everyday use.

This is one of the free rum at our resort. Liked it more then the Brugal A帽ejo Reserva which was the other choice. Like the other one it is the alcohol that hits you first. Good for beach drinks.
