Ron Cubay Anejo is made in Santo Dominco, Villa Clara (the centre of Cuba) by Cuba Ron S.A, which also produces Havana Club. The rum is matured 7 years before bottling.
Ron Cubay rum production began in 1964, but it was only released for export in 2010. The rum is aged in North American White Oak Barrels.

This bottle is apreciated by the locals in Cuba. That bottle will keep the party going.
Se boit bien même sans accompagnement mais dans les cubains je préfère un peu le santiago.
mixer rum with little flavour and depth ,a cheap rum that does not even begin to talk about drinking this paraffin neat. It’s a cocktail base and that’s all for me
A good dark Cuban rum that has flavour to it with fruit aroma
Sampled this light Cuban Rum (38% ABV) with fruity and coffee aromas and an oaky finish. This Rum is definitely a bargain @ $7.60 CUC for a 70 cl bottle in Cuba. In spite of the low price this Rum is a decent bargain sipper.
Update (2019-11)
Had occasion to enjoy several new (to me) rums during a recent trip to Cuba (some I liked while others just were not my thing). The majority of these rums are meant to be consumed with coke or some other concoction but since I drink my rums “neat” my reviews will be rated might accordingly.
Although young, the Cubay Anejo rum is not bad even when drank “neat”. Some sweetness detected but still very good.
dobře pitelný, nic zajímavého v něm nění, ale je to jeden z rumu nejlepšího poměru cena/výkon
Questo rum ha un buon carattere deciso. Non male per un anejo cubano. Consigliabile per qualità prezzo
Fair price / quality ratio. Average everyday rum. Fair score 6/10.
Great drink for your hip flask while sat watching the football in the peak of winter.
"caramel and toffee mixed with a mellow fruitness, like mashed apricots..."
"Ron Cubay Anejo rum review by Helen at A Mountain of Crushed Ice"
The rum has a very nice sweet entry.
"Notes of spicy oak and hints of tobacco, chocolate and an almost honey like sweet note. ."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Excellent Cuban Sipper for a Bargain

I can see many reviews here referring to the sweetness of the rum which leads me to the conclusion that many mistakenly reviewed Cubay Anejo Suave here. Cubay Anejo is quite recognizably the younger brother of the delightful Cubay 10y. The smell, taste profile and aftertaste is similar to the 10y, although not so elaborated, but for the price it is more than I would expect. The nose is leather, oak and tropical fruits, ended with aged calvados scent, the taste is smooth, toffee and fruits, with a bit of oak, black tea, aftertaste is mild toffee with black tee, ended with a lovely spicy tobacco bite. This is balanced, unsweetened, light but crisp and for the money surprisingly smooth and complex rum. The more I compare this to others, even much pricier rums, the more I appreciate the fine scents and flavors of this little darling. Since I discovered Cubay Anejo, I keep myself well stocked with it.
