Ron Cubay Anejo is made in Santo Dominco, Villa Clara (the centre of Cuba) by Cuba Ron S.A, which also produces Havana Club. The rum is matured 7 years before bottling.

Ron Cubay rum production began in 1964, but it was only released for export in 2010. The rum is aged in North American White Oak Barrels.

Just went back from all inclusive vacation on cayo Guillermo, Cuba. That was full of sun, fun and sure of rum.
Even there was literally nothing included from the premium sorts the all those Anejos were fine and scored:
Santiago de Cuba Extra Anejo - 7
Cubay Anejo - 7
Santero Anejo Oscuro - 7
Havana Club Anejo Reserva - 7
Santiago de Cuba Extra Seco - 8

The Extra Seco (extra dry) has exceptional taste compared to all those spiced. Light in color, very dry and pretty smooth, I liked it a lot.

Sorts from bottom line are too sharp with pronounced alcohol and are OK for cocktails only:
Havana Club Ritual - 6
Havana Club Anejo Especial - 6

The choice for more matured sorts:
Cubay 10 - 8
Havana Club 7 - 8
Santiago de Cuba 11 and 12 (only in Cigar bar) - 10.

Bought in hotel store Cubay 1870 Extra Anejo - 9.
Its profile is very similar to Cubay 10 - just more smooth and somehow more complex.

What I bought home and did not try yet: Santiago de Cuba 20. I have to report that all the sorts were less expensive (10-15%) at hotel's store then at the airport. So that is not the duty free, but "extra duty" stores.
Finally, what was "window shopped" only (- USD):
Havana Club Tribute 2019 - 555
Havana Club Union - 420
Havana Club 15 - 195
Cubay 1870 Extra Viejo - 133
Selection de Maestros - 55
Pacto Navio - 55

Happy New Year!

Questo rum ha un buon carattere deciso. Non male per un anejo cubano. Consigliabile per qualità prezzo

Alkohol: 37,5 %
Původ: Kuba
Aroma: Kůže, hutná zemitost, čokoláda, perník, trocha propolisu. (84 b)
Chuť: Sladká uhlazenost, velmi medová chuť, velejemná, bez jakékoliv štiplavosti. Je to rum velmi jemný, ale není nevýrazný. Pro ženy a mazlíčky jako dělaný. (84 b)
Body: 84
Shrnutí: Velmi pěkný poměr výkon/cena, obzvlášť pro ty, co hledají jemnost a sladkost v chuti.

I really liked this rum on my visit to Cuba - I preferred this one to Havana club

Toto je rum, kterým to u mě opravdu začalo. Skvělý poměr výkon / cena. Jemný, chutná i mé drahé, ne příliš sladký, jako často podobné levnější druhy

This is a very nice rum on the rocks or as a mixer. Wish we could purchase this in Canada. Much nicer than the lower tier Bacardi, Appleton or Captain Morgan swill that the LCBO carries in Ontario.

A good dark Cuban rum that has flavour to it with fruit aroma

Very decent, typically Cuban. Not too different from the Havana Club Anejo Especial. Maybe a little sweeter. I remember I liked it better than the Santiago de Cuba. In all Cuban rums I get a lot of oak, liquorice and aniseed and the Cubay is no different, but it's not unpleasant or overpowering. Also I like the compactness of flavours in Cubans and in this particular rum. They have a solid feel to them.

Sampled this rum at the Ron Cubay stand at the Cardiff Rum Festival.

It's a traditional Cuban rum aged for 7 years. Sweet coffee on the nose, syrupy almost. Spicy in the mouth with touches of cacao and oak coming through. Perfect for mixing with cola.
