Brugal Añejo rum

Brugal Añejo

Dominican Republic | Gold | 40% ABV

Brugal Anejo rum is a blend of rums aged 3 to 5 years in used American white Oak barrels that previously held whiskey and bourbon.

The rum is produced in the Dominican Republic by Brugal & Co., a company that was founded in the late 1800s by the Spaniard Andrés Brugal Montaner. Today, the Brugal rum company remains largely in the control of Montaner's direct descendants.

This rum has a distinct woodiness to its aroma in the bottle. I came to that conclusion before reading the label and discovering it to have been aged in oak casks. Upon further research I discovered the oak barrels used to contain bourbon. That explains not only the aroma but also its mellowness. This is a fine sipping rum with bare hints of sweetness and a complex flavor that does remind me of Kentucky bourbon. Some may prefer this as a sipping rum but IMHO it's best in cola.

One point...fishnets on a woman...sexy. Fishnets on a bottle of rum....weird. :-)

Perhaps I’ve grown too accustomed to estery Jamaicans and overproof Navy style rums, packed with flavor and dark from the cask… but this doesn’t taste like much to me. I get a grassy, vegetal note, that might come from the rum’s (relative) youth. To me, this doesn’t scream “Añejo.” That said, it does taste like rum, which is more than I can say for a lot of what passes around these days. I’ll drink what I have, but probably won’t buy this again. Despite what the company advertises, this is a better mixer than it is a sipper. The bottle is attractive, though.

Lovely colour and nice dry medium-dark rum that has become my go-to choice for mixing...even tolerable on the rocks, but is no Ron Zacapa. Hav ent found the older Brugals here in Vermont but eager to try them.

Lovely warm and good aroma, the taste remember coffe note at final, one of the best at this price, ottimo rapporto qualità prezzo!

I recommend it with the price as one of the most favorite.
Just maybe a little too strong an alcoholic taste for the connoisseurs.

This rum is good sample of Spanish style. But nothing more. It’s completely unremarkable and unmemorable. Maybe I will buy it again… Sometimes… But I’m not sure.

This is the rum that you can drink anywhere in the Dominican Republic, light, sweet and perfect to drink with coke and a squeeze of lemon.

This one is a nice rum, but not satisfying for sipping. I find it better than most of Bacardi and Havana bottles, but I still think that if you’re a sipper you should find something more complex than Brugal. I’m not an expert of mixing, but I think this rum could be great in some cocktails that require a good rum

Although not too bad of a taste, also very much an occasional change to the go-to bottle
