The nose is teaming with coffee and chocolate. The palette opens with powerfull, sweet molasse and dark chocolate, followed by medium roasted coffee and rounded, soft spicy tingles. The aftertaste is substantial with a lingering full coffee note. It's a rum enjoyed in smaller quantities. The full package makes me think a bit of made tiramisu.

The nose is spicy and dark with a clear of mocha coffee flavor.
The dark coffee follows through in the taste, with an added burnt dark brown sugar of medium-high sweetness. The long finish brings a wealth of deep complex notes of caramel, cocoa and cola.

I was really surprised by the way that The Rum Company have achieved such a high level of complexity in such a refined and pleasant package. The experience you get with this rum clearly reflects the wide age-range of rums (5 to 33 years) used by their Master Blender.

Even though I do not smoke cigars, I can see why it is recommended as a companion to this rum. You really must enjoy it with something dark and powerful in taste, such as coffee or dark chokolate - otherwise the Aficionado will blow it out of the water.

A solid 9/10.

It is sweet, and it's a 10. As other users described it it has a strong feel of dark chocolate and coffee. It goes great with cigars, great. The aftertaste lasts forever, amazing. It just lasts, and lasts, and reveals all the beautiful notes of fruit, chocolate, coffee, and strong notes of vanilla. amazing. It is not for everyday drinking, but when it is time to have a glass, it will be a celebration.

This rum was designed as a companion to cigars. Nose reveals sweet molasses and caramel. Palate is dominated by notes of molasses, chocolate, toffee and coffee. Short-medium finish. Overall appearance is quite (too) smooth and sweet and my impression is that this rum is designed towards the flavor profile of ron Zacapa. Did not taste it with a cigar, this might influence the appearance.

Everyone likes their rum in different ways: neat, on the rocks, as mixers and so on... Even though it is not my cup of tea, it is clear to taste, that this was a rum created to be enjoyed with a good cigar

Nose: Sweet molasses and a touch of liquorice. A very deep experience on the nose
Taste: Dark chocolate, coffee, caramel and a touch of wood
Overall: This is a rum with a very deep taste with darker notes of chocolate and coffee combined with the sweet. A bit of smoke should go nice with this, which is why, I think, it would go great with a cigar

Dark red mahogany in the glass.
On the nose, very heavy and dark, fiery burnt caramel mixes with dark chocolate, strong roasted coffee and toasted wood join the herd. Fruits in vanilla sauce and creamy candies complete the whole thing.
On the palate, no sorry, but that's too much of a good thing, the first sip as a men's perfume completely over-turned and very artificial for a rum. Bubble gum with coffee flavor and chocolate, completely sweet and cheesy.
In the finish, which, by the way, lasts for a long time, dominates coffee and cocoa. -7
A rum that I personally do not like but sure friends in the area of sweet spiced rum finds.

What a rare find the Rum Company Aficionado really was. It took me several years to locate a bottle. Label looks nice and old school. Bottle is very sturdy and unique boxy shape. Color is super deep brown. Very pleasant mocha coffee and strong chocolate flavors to the nose. Palate gets hit with much stronger mocha coffee flavor which lingers a few minutes. Palate is much milder on chocolate. No burn at all. Strong 8 for sure, gets into my Top 40 list from well over 700 aged dark rums later.

18. December i romkalenderen 2017

Compared to old Barbados from rum company this is a better rum. More sting and roundness to it but with mature flavours of coffee and dark chocolate. Nose: Lemon tea, coffee and chocolate. Palate: Dark chocolate, orange and coffee in a sweet but not to sweet mix. Very dark in colour looks amazing in your glass. 7.8/10
