This is a shelf standard for me. I have no problem sipping it over a rocks cube or using it in cocktails. Just a solid lower-sugar tasty rum.

A rather dark rum. Very nice bottle presentation. Quite fragrant - I let it sit for a while and can smell thre aroma. Fairly smooth, with an average finish. Doesn't last too long on the tongue. Overall not bad, but not that memorable either.

Found this one tastes sweeter than the previous Brugal 1888 (old bottle) and disappointing. Wish the old one was still avaible.

Sipping this neat, I must admit, the first few tastes of this Rum I was not overly impressed. I have now finished about a quarter of the bottle and the taste is much better now ( I have discovered this with a few other Rums too). Now I love this stuff, very smooth and a wonderful depth of flavour, with hints of Molasses, Vanilla and Chocolate, and a very pleasant afterburn. I very was tempted to give it a 9.

Not that strong in flavour but nice on the palate. Standard level sipping rum. Good but not great

Esperaba m谩s, es muy equilibrado, tiene fuerza pero se bebe f谩cil, tiene dulzor pero no empalaga, me gusta pero no es mi preferido.

Ok, not bad but a little bit far from what i was expected. Sure not to be mixed but you need ice. Nice color. Not to strong nose. The body was not too sweet and dry. The aftertaste was a mix of alcohol and spicy.

A lot of people are rating this high then me. So I need to try again to see what I am missing. This had oak, grass and earthy tones.

Having tried and rated a bottle of 1888 Ron Gran Reserva Familiar I saw this one as a new product at my local store and thought I would try it. After looking it up on their website I think this is the new standard 1888 since the old bottle is not listed. It says aged up to 14 years and double aged in bourbon and sherry casks. The aroma is very subtle and inviting. The flavor is very heavy with molasses and is quite smooth. It reminds me a great deal of Papa鈥檚 Pilar 24. Overall a nice offering if you like sweetened rum, it not too complex but a very good choice for $40.
