Overall not bad, especially as a sipper. Seems the longer it has a chance to sit, the more the aroma and flavors mature. I only discovered this by accident as I had forgotten about my drink for almost an hour and found it much better across the board.
Sort of like a rum, bourbon, sherry cocktail. Not unpleasant but somewhat confusing. The alcohol hides some, than finishes with a light burn. It is different enough to own a bottle but it would not be my only one.
Smak: delikatny posmak alkoholu, wyczuwalna nuta toffi i karmelu, a takze wędzonego drewna
Finisz: długi i bardzo aromatyczny, wyczuwalny dąb
Zapach: przyjemny, nie za mocny, tofii i dąb
Kolor: ciemno brązowy
Butelka: Fajnie stylizowana i zdobiona zlotymi elementami.
A rather dark rum. Very nice bottle presentation. Quite fragrant - I let it sit for a while and can smell thre aroma. Fairly smooth, with an average finish. Doesn't last too long on the tongue. Overall not bad, but not that memorable either.
Sipping this neat, I must admit, the first few tastes of this Rum I was not overly impressed. I have now finished about a quarter of the bottle and the taste is much better now ( I have discovered this with a few other Rums too). Now I love this stuff, very smooth and a wonderful depth of flavour, with hints of Molasses, Vanilla and Chocolate, and a very pleasant afterburn. I very was tempted to give it a 9.
Not that strong in flavour but nice on the palate. Standard level sipping rum. Good but not great
Esperaba más, es muy equilibrado, tiene fuerza pero se bebe fácil, tiene dulzor pero no empalaga, me gusta pero no es mi preferido.
Ok, not bad but a little bit far from what i was expected. Sure not to be mixed but you need ice. Nice color. Not to strong nose. The body was not too sweet and dry. The aftertaste was a mix of alcohol and spicy.
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

I finally came around and bought a bottle of this when I saw it for a good price in the classic blue box/bottle combo which has now been discontinued. Its definitively Dominican rum with the same grassy/tropical dew backbone as rums like Kirk&Sweeney or Ron Matusalem. With that said I really disliked K&S 12 and really liked Matusalem 18 so Im only referring to a familiarity and not the whole taste. To compare, Brugal takes that grassy flavor and balances it out as not to be bitter or cloying the way it is in all the K&S rums IMO while being less sweet with a similar smoothness to Matusalem. 1888 has some delicate bourbon, vanilla, brown suagar, and sherry flavors with a tiny bit of spice at the end. Its very easy drinking and more dry than sweet. Dont expect this to blow you away but it is a nice "sipper",which remember, doesnt always mean sweet! Update: 2nd bottle and it's the new one with the black wax over the cork. I like it even better this time around but that doesn't mean that the rum has changed, more likely my palate has changed. I am more used to the Domincan "tropical breeze" backbone of this rum and can therefore appreciate the flavors from the aging more. Creamy and one of the smoothest ever.
