Brugal 1888 Gran Reserva Familiar
Origine : République Dominicaine
Nez : Vanille, caramel, cannelle
It is the champ right now in my collection. But I am always looking for a new contender. Smooth caramel with a great finish
This is a big favorite of mine to sip. You can taste the extra aging in the sherry casks. We love it and it is easily available on the east coast.
You can order this at a good bar and sip on it. It does the job. It has a nice presentation of toffee and woody flavors. Unfortunately it is simply too dry to be considered in the top echelons of rum sipping goodness. It’s by no means a bad choice, but there are better rums in the category for the price.
A bit pricier than other more complex rums or those with dimension. Good in general, but not great. Not a ton of dimension and a tad bit drier for an aged option, but works well neat or with a single cube of ice. Glad i tried it, but it is not on the go to list. ymmv
Smak: delikatny posmak alkoholu, wyczuwalna nuta toffi i karmelu, a takze wędzonego drewna
Butelka: Fajnie stylizowana i zdobiona zlotymi elementami.
Not as sweet as other rums with a little more burn. If you're coming straight from a bourbon drinker's perspective, this might be an easy transition. I quite enjoyed the flavors and think it's a great rum, but I personally prefer a little sweetness to my rums. So rather than getting this again, I'd probably just get some bourbon or whiskey.
Ok, not bad but a little bit far from what i was expected. Sure not to be mixed but you need ice. Nice color. Not to strong nose. The body was not too sweet and dry. The aftertaste was a mix of alcohol and spicy.
A lot of people are rating this high then me. So I need to try again to see what I am missing. This had oak, grass and earthy tones.
i realy enjoys this one well balance a little bit to dry but for all a great experience
Very nice sipper, always have a bottle on hand!!!!!
A fantastic rum.
Try the Extra Viejo as well and the VX.A
All excellent, but this is my favorite so far.
The higher grades are not available in the USA, and quite expensive
Not that much sweetened. Nice earthly scent but the taste... Its similar to that anti-mosquito plug-in repelents - perfumy taste that hides a chemical disaster. Leave this one to teenagers and their experiments. For a similar price buy yourself Mount Gay XO. Or Doorlys etc. In short proper rums, that taste like rums. After tasting this next to MG XO, I was really close to throwing up.
Chocolate milk smell, soft taste, it's a bit nummy, dark tones, tobacco, bitter
I enjoy this good aroma rum. Body of this rum is a little thin. But smooth, not too sweet.
Never get tired.
An old batch of this series. Double-distilled and matured in American oak before a second maturation period in sherry casks.
N- Caramel and stewed fruits, herbal tea with layer of earthiness to keep it authentic. Soft breezy oak, and floral, again touch of feint from this multiple distilled spirits. White raisin, sour plum and dried fruit intertwined. (84/18)
P- Thin body, sweet kiwi, young banana and oak smokes, Easy on palate with touch of dusty oak, which is not a bad thing in this case. (83/18)
F- Medium, plums, clean oak with semi dry finish, touch of bitter sweet herbs. (85/19)
B/B- 84/18, having same issue to term with the low strength that restricted any profound flavours of the rum to come thru.
Weighted Rate- 73pt

Brugal 1888 GR
barva světlejší mahagon
chutově nevyraznější dominikansky rum
celkově očekáváný výsledek u rumu z dominikany
Very well structured and balanced, wood and full bodied Dominican rum
Smells great, but dull after taste. Makes me wanna try something else.
This was best at Top of the Market in San Diego. A little rough - a lime smoothed it out some.
