High end bottle, beautiful in aesthetic. It’s a right down the middle safe rum not to sweet no burn at all, caramel and vanilla notes you’d expect from a panamanian rum. Only reason it down score higher for me is that it doesn’t have much variation or body to it. Missing a wood note or an additional interesting component to it that makes it stand apart. It’s just a good unmemorable sipper
Don Pancho 30 years méně sladší kopie Zacapy Centenario 30y Anniverario za ½ ceny
I had this side by side with the 18 year. It was VERY close, but I think the 18 year is just a bit better, as I believe the 30 year is a bit over aged.
It's not a bad rum at all, but it has a fairly strong oak flavor, and it's not as smooth as I expected from a 30 year rum.
Smells and tastes of oak, allspice, brown sugar, and leather. Again, not bad, but I think the 18 year is just a tad better to me.
Origenes Reserva 30 Years from Panama was bottled by Don Pancho Fernandez. It was aged for 30 years on Panama in ex-Bourbon barrels. As far as I know, the origines are normally sweetened a little. It does not seem to be the case with this one. Unfortunately, it only has a strength of 40%.
Smell: A smell of wax, white tea and dried fruits is initially noticeable. The dried fruits are quite dominant. You can tell by the smell that it is a Panama rum. Panama rums tend to be rather subtle, even if they are old. This one is not very intense either. The wax is more in the background, I notice red dried fruits such as cranberries and grapes that are reminiscent of wine. In the background there are more aromas of light wood from a bourbon barrel, vanilla and some sugar cane sweetness. The smell is not complex. Deeper in the glass, I perceive some metallic aromas and some earthy barrel aromas.
Taste: it starts off slightly sweet with burnt sugar and tannins with light wood. The wood also brings a little vanilla. The dried fruits come up, especially the dried cranberries, the rum becomes a little drier in the mouth. The spiciness rises and the tannins flare up again with some typical Panama rum aromas. That’s also the finish. I miss the complexity and heavy flavors of a 30 year old rum.
Aftertaste: vanilla, wood, wax
The rum is pleasant and smooth. But being smooth is just one effect of aging and that is not the main purpose at the age of 30. The aim would be to develop heavy aromas, but since it doesn't have any I don't understand why this rum has been stored for 30 years.
Maybe because of the 30 years aging I expected something extraordinary. There is not enough intensity for me at 40% abv, the RA BC Haiti 2004 is more intense at cask strength although it's 14 years younger. The taste is not very complex and without heavy aromas that I would expect in such an old rum. But I must notice Panama rums are not intensive at all.
The average rum drinker may not stand barrel strength. This is the only reason why this rum was diluted, to please also the last rum drinker who was willing to spend 300 euros for it.
It's good but doesn't match the best rums because it tries to please everyone and is not strong enough for the real connoisseur.
Overall rating: 86 points
Sweetness: 1.5/5

Spice: 2.5/5
Complexity: 2/5
Value (300€): 1/5
The nose is full with orange peel, cinnamon, oak, chocolate and dried fruits. It's nice, but not unique. The palette is potent with deep semi-sweet notes of oak, brown sugar, tabaco and leather. There's a long and fairly spicy finish, resemblent of white pepper perhaps. It's indeed very good but also overpriced. At this kinda money, some other bottles offer very intense experiences. The rum itself probably deserves a 9 rating, but the price drags it down.
Deep dark rich colour.
Alcohol, a bit of sugar and some lemon on the nose. Complex sugary start.
Woody and deep aged taste, quite bitter finish.
Over-aged and not smooth enough. Quite sharp finish.

Good, not too sweet and with a suprême aftertaste.
