I haven't been able to find this rum in my hometown of Longview, TX for over a year. I was told that it wasn't being produced anymore. Well, to my pleasant surprise, I'm spending the night in Ft. Worth and the liquor store across the street from my hotel has it! Woot woot! I am so excited. The guy there told me he had just ordered it a month ago and had no problem getting it. I had also found it in Austin last year so Idk why I can't find it near me.
This is a good spiced rum. For some it could be considered overly sweet with all of the additives but it is a good sipper for something different. It has a strong vanilla flavor as well as a bit of apricot and chocolate. Good finish and as stated before be prepared because it is sweet. This is a good sipper and good to cook with. I make a BBQ sauce with this as well as a pancake syrup.
Came across this in Vegas and loved it. Very cool bottle design, great taste and perfect with Coke.
Not a bad rum by any means, but overpriced for what you get. Aside from the nicely presented bottle, the actual rum is only marginally better than standard captain morgan rum.
Slick bottle to start with. At first taste a mild vanilla hollered by stronger spices than you standard captain morgansbut minus the bite . sweeter than the original captains but not too sweet. Highly drinkable over ice but great with coke or my favorite bundaberg ginger beer
Pleasantly surprised would be an understatement. This was really good for a cheep rum from captain, good job
Was a good rum b
UT not the best. Much better then any other captain I have had and works good as a mixer.
Surprisingly smooth and has a good finish, nothing overpowering, just a very good spiced rum. It has been mixing in so well with most applications that it is becoming my go-to rum for mixed drinks. The bottle is pretty cool too.
Brown caramel color verry surprising a smooth entry in mouth no strong alcool sent to the nose the finih and after taste leave a verry plesent taste on the rock or strait up in a cold glass like other captain morgan this rhum is better served chill but not cold. To my taste it is the onlyMorgan that deserve to be left unmixed.
Morgan's your captain would be proud of that one. Arrg arrg.
Good rum with some decent vanilla flavor. Too bad this has been discontinued.
I did not expect much from Captain, however boy did he deliver. This is still one of my favorite rums for an excellent rum and coke. Similar to Private Stock, however has a much more pronounced vanilla taste. On the nose it has vanilla and numerous fruits which I could not quite pinpoint. Sad that I only have two left in my possession.
Familiar Captain Morgan flavor but with a smoother flavor. The bottle is pretty cool too.
VERY VERY Good! Not enough O's in SMOOOOOOO......TH
this is by far a surprise to me. I could not believe how much I enjoyed this rum. I'm just so happy that I have 3 more bottles to enjoy. Actually 2, one I think I will save for a very special occasion.
Like the vanilla hints. Big fan of this rum, inexpesive, great over ice or with your favorite mixxer
I don't know exactly what possessed me to buy a bottle of this. Especially after rating Capt. Morgan Cannon Blast with a 1 (wish I could've given it a 0) and the Capt. Morgan Private Stock with a 2. But I've been told that this one is different and better. Plus I read it's been discontinued. So when I ran across some for sale on the clearance table, I thought, "Why not?".
As the title says...it doesn't suck.
It's not great, either. But it doesn't make me want to vomit after consuming a few meager sips like the Canon Blast did (that stuff sucks with a capital SUCK).
The color in the snifter is like a lightly stained mahogany.
The aroma...smells like candy...uh-oh...could spell trouble...
The flavor is indeed sweet but not sickenly sweet. It does have spices but nothing really stands out. At only 70 proof (35% ABV) it does not have as much of a kick as 80 proof (or higher) rums. Borderline liqueur. A little too sweet for colas and fruit-based drinks. Probably works well with coffee-based cocktails and with drier beverages (as a counter to the sweetness).
Okay...I admit...this doesn't suck. It's still not good but it is not the worst out there either. Take it for what it is. If this was discontinued by the folks at Capt. Morgan then I consider it a poor decision by their marketing department.
This rum has such a unique flavour to me. Serve it with cola and some bergy bits and a fine refreshing drink is had. Hearty, sincere, and very tasty.
Very smooth, amazing as well, I love the bottle it is what made me buy it, the flavors inside are so yummy, shots or with Cola. A huge fan of this one, wish they kept it around for longer.
Not as much vanilla as Private Stock, but still a good/excessive amount. I add it to rum and coke, but will an equal amount of some other non-vanilla bomb rum.
I like the 1671. I feel it is quite smooth. Caramel and vanilla, with an almost chocolate finish. Have not mixed, but use for a sipper. Cool bottle also. On a side note, I also like the Captain Morgan Sherry Cask, which I feel is a bit smoother. All in all, I think 1671 is a good rum.
If you are considering this the private stock is much better and worth the price difference. Agree with the reviewer who noted cocoa notes. Vanilla does not come through as much and kind of clashes with coke instead of improving it. Have not found the right application for this yet, may mix better with ginger beer?
A good effort from the captain but it is still a rum for university students not a rum collectors choice to buy. Nice bottle.
No typically fan of spice rum however I saw this and I though I would give it a go.
Nose: The best part. Cocoa and spices.
Feel: You hardly know you are tasting rum...
Taste: because all you can taste is the sugar. You don't even need to put it with coke they have added quite enough already. Sickly.
Presentation: This is why a bought it. I though they were taking rum seriously and could make a nicely balanced spice rum where the goal was to flavour rather than mask.
Cost: 38CAD. Way way too much.
