It's like Brazilian cachaça, but more intense. No wonder, they're both made from fresh cane juice and unaged. But the Karukera is really quite a bit more intensive. At first, upon opening the bottle, it has a pleasant milk-like complexity. But soon it develops the more pungent notes of cachaça, which are reminiscent of bins for vegetable garbage. Best used for a Creol style 'ti punch.

Visited the Longueteau Distillery while vacationing in Guadeloupe. Hands down the best distillery tour and completely open tasting bar. Karukera Rhum is distilled at the same location as Longueteau. Karukera used to be the name of this island before it was called Guadeloupe. Karukera Rhum Blanc was priced at EUR 6 per bottle at the distillery. Rather basic and nondescript bottle and label design. Dry Rhum Agricole flavors complemented with grass, spices, citrus fruits and plenty of floral notes to the nose and palate. Quite a burn at the end being so dry. Rhum Agricole fan boys can easily add 2 points to my score.

Big vegetal funky aroma, clean grassy taste without too much sweet. Nice! Obviously works best in a ‘ti punch
