Truly a fantastic choice
This is a Rockley batch from the year 2000. After 16 years of aging, it has been bottled on 9.2.2017 at 57,6% cask strength. It comes from barrel number 18, which yielded 245 bottles.
This is my second Rockley, I already had the one with the sherry finish from Bristol.
Nose: Honey sweetness, vanilla pudding, some herbs are the first aromas. It's quite sharp in the nose first and a little bit medical. Followed by bright wet wood and flowery aromas. The rum seems a bit oily on the nose. It's like a sweet and aromatic PM but without the grasy aromas. Tasty but not very complex.
Taste: There are sweet vanilla, flowery and grasy aromas followed by some tannins and wood. The sharpness increases and releases more wood with Tannins. Vanilla is still there with wood chips.
The finish is spicy with wood and vanilla, seems a bit oily in the mouth. Quite a long and aromatic finish. There are again the flowery aromas.
Aftertaste: Flowery aromas, vanilla, bright wood
Conclusion: This rum is aromatic like an SVW but not from Demerara instead from Rockley. Very interesting but not exceptional, there must be better releases.
Therefore 88 points.
