This is simply a delight! Could easily drink the bottle straight and neat until it was gone. A light sweetness, Carmel is the stronger but still mellow note. A brief oakeness and a very faint nutty hint. Well worth the 140$ spent between three compadres! Strongly enjoy this rum!

Lured by its impeccable warm aroma I decided to indulge myself in this fine rum. Upon the first sip, I knew I had embarked on a wild journey of tastes and essences. Despite this rum's bold flavour, it maintains a smooth and velvety texture that caresses the palate with every sip. Pair this rum with any Premium Maduro Cigar of your choice and let it take you on a voyage of flavour that you won’t forget.

This is good, but way below the level I was expecting. Save your money.

I received this bottle as a retirement present last year. I saved it for a special occasion as it costs way more than my normal budget for a single bottle. I was expecting this to be a smooth sipper.

First, let me say that this bottle is very drinkable and should suit most people. However, at this price point, I expected something more. It’s good, don’t get me wrong. It’s NOT disappointing, but it doesn’t wow me like others in its category do.

The nose is strong vanilla and molasses and brown sugar.

On the palate, these are confirmed, but also some baking spices and peppery tingle.

The finish is a bit weak. It doesn’t leave any memorable aftertaste and the burn is medium and ends quickly.

Overall, a decent rum without any additives, but not mind blowing. I’ve tried it neat, on ice and in a cocktail, and neat is its best presentation. The cocktail was second and in ice, it loses much of its character quickly.

Heavy oak, blackberries, spice. Great nose. Smooth and thick. Deep and mildly complex. Vanilla, marzipan. Has a punch. Not a balanced rum. Vanilla comes sweeping in at the end along side molasses. Very good. Better neat, but also good on ice. I have to say I expected more from a 25 year old rum.

Time has come to open one of my two bottles of Flor de Cana 25 rum. This rum sells for $162 CAD in my area compared to $65 CAD for FdC18. As a result I expected an improvement over the FdC18, which I really enjoy.

The packaging is definitely first class and suggests this is a quality rum. In the glass the mahogany colour is inviting, on the nose I can detect oak (although not as prominent as the Mount Gay 1703 Master Select rum or the MGXO), vanilla, caramel and banana. My first sip confirmed my fears, this could have been an excellent rum but the unnecessary addition of 15 g/L ruined it for me.

Those who enjoy sweeter rums will enjoy this one but I feel duped for the price I paid for this sugary rum.

UPDATE: 2020-07-04

I decided to sample FdC25 side by side with FdC18 to compare and verify my initial evaluation and sadly came to the conclusion that FdC18 is better than the expensive FdC25. I cannot understand why the FdC lineup consists of “dry” rums, with the exception of the FdC25 which is laced with 15 g/L of added sugar. I likely would have scored this rum quite high (possibly a 10) had it been unadulterated. I am not wondering if FdC25 is not similarly in age as the FdC18 with sugar added to change the taste ans ask 3 times the money.
I feel cheated!
Pity!

I suppose this top shelf rum is one of the best. This one is not for Zacapa lovers, due to the fact it's unsweetened.

Aroma is lil oaky, rich fruit (pear, apple skin), burnt coco, raw blanched cocoa nib

Taste is a bit floral, with little acid bite of fresh coffee.
Density is perfect for sipping, golden and amber color is magnificent
This one is a pearl from the rum world.

P.S.
Especially recomended with nicaraguan cigar (Oliva)

Nice smooth aroma. Not so complex body as expected from 25y. Aftertaste is nice smooth and long. For that price I expected more...
