Great color and smell. Caramel, banana and vanilla on the nose, not a lot of alcohol smell. Well balanced, smooth, sweet but not overpowering, and very easy to sip on. One of the few rums I actually feel bad about putting an ice cube or anything else with it.
I can't say I'd pay 80 a bottle for it again, but not because it isn't worth it. I'm just a cheapo that can't always shoot the moon. I generally go for something that I can live with that has enough complexity to comfortably call a sipping rum. This was one of my occasional upper echelon buys that I treat myself to rarely.
Don't regret it a bit.
I love this rum... just hard to find! It was exceptionally smooth, amazingly balanced, and I am always on the lookout for a bottle. From first smell to aftertaste, this is a great rum through and through.
Extremely smooth with strong rich notes and just enough of a bite to remind you its alcohol.
There is a lot going on with this fine aged rum and smooth comes to mind. Pricy but get what you pay for with the 25yo and well balanced
Mahogany brown in color with a divine nose of butterscotch, oak, caramelized sugar, and the slightest waft of vegetal funk on the edge. Not a hint of added sugar, but a hint of sweet in the finish along with the oak wood aroma and just enough bite to let you know it’s a spirit your sipping, but otherwise quite smooth. A couple drops of water added a bit more sweetness to the finish and erased the minimal bite to a whisper.
Picked up a bottle in St. Maarten for almost half the price I can get it back home, however still not worth it the price . I have several rums that are better at a 1/4 of the price.
This is a very smooth rum obviously but i felt it lacked a bit of character and i actually enjoyed the 18 year a bit more because it was more unique to me, with a coconut vibe. This one, although very good, seems familiar to quite a few other rums i have tried. Perhaps i need more!
The dark molasses colour, age and heritage promise a very good rum. Strong smokey burnt wood smell and taste with molasses, caramel and just enough sweetness does indeed deliver, but it retains that slightly harsh and bitter aftertaste that is tell-tale of Flor de Caña. which knocks it down a point for me. Whisky drinkers might find this one very likable.
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

This rum smells and tastes of oak, caramel, light vanilla and cacoa. Not as sweet or smooth as I'd like, but sill good. Over priced for what it is ($159.99 at BevMo! 2015) though my rating doesn't factor in the price.
