Comparable to Carribean rum but a different equally wonderful taste.
Cacao rum, who knew! I’m not much for flavored rum, being of the Jamaican/Barbados/ Martinique snob class. But I do love Hawaii and Hawaiian rum, if for nothing else but the Ohana.
Great deep cocoa on the nose. Chocolate-y on the plate. Multiple spices on the finish.
Give it a try, it’s worth a taste. No better “dessert rum” (if there is such a thing). Aloha!
P. S. The cocao essence lingers in the senses for quite a while.
I was very pleasantly surprised. I generally do mot like flavored rums. This is literally like drinking a Godiva chocolate. Really decadent. The rum behind it is not spectacular. But the unique flavor is. This would make a superstar mixer. It is very sippable if you love chocolate.
Very tasty, very sweet, though the toastiness and almost milky flavor overwhelmed after a sip. Maybe the ideal mixer for cocoa or cream cocktails?
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Like a premium chocolate bar!

This rum is made from Lydgate Farms Kauai chocolate, and it taste like I would imagine one of their premium chocolate bars would taste like.
I think the chocolate flavor is better than the Selvarey Cacao, which is more like chocolate milk than premium chocolate, and I like that this rum is 40% rather than just 35%, but I also think the chocolate may a bit overpowering, taking over the rum flavor, and it has a bit of a dark chocolate taste, which is not my favorite style of chocolate.
I struggled to pick a winner between this and the Selvarey Cacao, but ultimately I prefer the Selvarey, as this is a bit too chocolatey for me.
With that said, if you love premium chocolate, you might just love this rum.
As of this review, my favorite chocolate rums are the Companero Panama, followed by the Deadhead Chocolate.
