I love this rum. I discovered it a few years ago on a trip to New Orleans and find that it is just a good all around rum. It mixes well and is fine for sipping. I just wish it were easier to find here in Pensacola, FL.

The versatility this rum possesses is very unique . Any whiskey cocktail you make, can be replaced by using the Rougaroux Fullmoon . Hints of vanilla, caramel, and the oak you get from the aging process. Enjoy this in an Old Fashioned, Cuba libre, or I love it on a big chunk of ice. Perfection. Donner-Peltier knows what they are doing.

I got this as a gift from my daughter's boy friend. I've been curious about this brand but it hasn't been high on my list. WHAT WAS I WAITING FOR???? This is an amazing tasting rum.

Created using local sugar cane grown in Lousiana, the rum is deep, smooth, and dark. Perfect for cocktails that require sipping

Got this at L&M Package Store in Gulfport, MS and am very happy to have found this brand. Nice smooth flavor. Good rum. I would have rated it a 9 but the bottle I have has a somewhat "plastic" flavor mixed in with the rum flavor. Perhaps I got a bad bottle. I really do not know. Of course I am sipping this straight as I do with all the rums I sample. Blackstrap molasses and raw sugar cane are used to make this rum which is then aged for an undisclosed amount of time to produce this "dark" rum. A rich amber color is the result with definite oak tones to it. It's a bit buttery on the tongue and that plastic flavor takes away what should be a delightful rum. Even with that in mind there is a noted mild sweetness to it with hints of vanilla and caramel. It still remains a good rum but I want to try another bottle when I can to see if I may have gotten a tainted bottle.

ADDENDUM: Does quite well in Coke Zero. 3oz in a 20oz Coke Zero (normally I use the 16.9 oz but this one what was onhand) but that plastic flavor is still present although mellowed quite a bit. Definitely want to give this a second chance. This line of rums deserves...no...DEMANDS a wider distribution. In my humble opinion.

I found this rum on the tail end of the company shutting down. I had no idea that they did until it became harder and harder to find, making multiple trips to Louisiana just to buy it. Managed to get a case from a vendor that had been sitting in a wine store for years untouched... luck.

This is one of the smoothest and least harsh rums I've had. It has zero burn to it and has a constant pleasant oak taste to it the entire time. It has a bit of sweet to it, but not overpowering like some others. It tastes good by itself, on the rocks or mixed with a cola of your choosing.

Doubt we'll see this rum again. The company shut down out of their own will, and the equipment is just collecting dust. They won't be selling the recipe to anyone else and it's just "gone".

Waited 18 months to try this stuff and finally found a bottle locally for $14.99 - what a bargain! Let me just say that this rum has some of the best branding I've ever seen. The bottle, design, and marketing are totally flawless. Cracked the bottle open and the aroma was somewhat incendiary; loads of intense oak and light smoke coupled with a slightly candied vanilla and petrol overtone. Going in, there's a big, bold beginning followed almost immediately with an intense, oaky middle, but rather oddly, totally fizzles out with not much of a lingering end. Weird. I went in a few more times and the same thing. In short, this rum has a very intense, full-bodied, beginning, spicy, sweet, peppery, bold middle, however, it quickly gives way to a very bland and mundane end. Honestly, I wasn't bowled over and I wanted to be!

A few months ago, I was on a trip to the eastern Florida coast. At the bar, I saw this rum as being a part of one drink. I shuddered in fear based upon previous experiences with Louisiana rums, so I did not order that drink. I later became friends with the manager, who was a Louisiana ex-patriot. He advised me that Rougaroux was indeed a good rum. I truly trusted him, but waited until I got home to buy my first bottle.

What a pleasant surprise this rum was! It was my first, but won't be my last. The two families that create this rum have really done their research and got it right. It is rich, dark, smooth, and not too sweet. I would prefer to drink it on the rocks instead of neat, but it would be a really fantastic mixer.

As for the namesake Rougaroux, it started out as a Cajun werewolf that lived in the swamps of south Louisiana. As with any other mythical creature, it slowly evolved based upon where you lived. In the big cities, it evolved into a creature that was half alligator and half fish, which is seriously getting away from the original creature. Why? Quite simple! When little girls begged to go fishing with Daddy and her brothers, all Daddy had to say was that the Rougaroux was going to get her. The mere description of this creature was enough to make the girls want to stay back at home while the men and the boys went fishing. All of this scare tactic was done because we all knew that most girls would never pee over the side of a boat. Thank God for the Rougaroux!

As for the Rougaroux only being able to count to twelve, the number of Cajun spices is eleven. How convenient! The Rougaroux rules!

It's a respectable offering, and one of the better aged rums from a USA distillery. However, it's really middle-of-the road to me.

Happened upon this rum at one of Danny Meyer's concept, Blue Smoke in New York City after reading about the rum in Chilled Magazine. It made the perfect Cuba Libre. I like the oaky notes and just the right amount of sweetness. Anxious to bring this home as a sipping rum.
