Truly a fantastic choice
Rum Mezan Guyana 2007 was bottled in 2019, it's a single cask
First three years of aging was tropical, after that 9 years in Europe. The last year of aging was in the PX Sherry cask.
Nose: Reminds me of REV. I get plums with blueberries, also some dark old and a little bit smoky wood aromas. It seems much older than it is. I would say it's an old Navy rum in a blind tasting. Some salty molasses is in the background. Sweet aromas of honey and vanilla, like in an Enmore.
Great nose for a 12y old rum.
Taste: The taste starts a little bit sweet with blueberries and some wine notes. There are also some molasses and raisins in the taste. As it became more spicy I get some orange zests with blueberries and plums. The wood became more present, I can taste the cask and some bitter tannins are rising.
The finish is a little bit spicy, with plums, wood, some blueberry notes.
Great rum, goes in the direction of REV. It's not that complex, could be a little bit older.
But still a great rum for just 12 years. Perfect work with these PX finish from the master blender.
Would rate it with 91 points.
Value 125€: 4.5/5
